A Bundesliga Round 32: Regular season ends with five games - Apr 7, 2013

The Regular Season in A Bundesliga just ended.

There was a change at the A Bundesliga leadership position after last games. Round 32 most important game was a defeat of league's leader BC Vienna (21-9). They were defeated by third ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (20-10) 82-78 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 28-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Mexican forward Mark Sanchez (201-87, college: Boise St., agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward Demetrius Nelson (203-86, college: Citadel, agency: Court Side) who added 21 points during the contest. American swingman Ian Boylan (197-83, college: CS Northridge) responded with 24 points and 8 assists. Kapfenberg Bulls maintains third position with 20-10 record behind leader Klosterneub. BC Vienna lost third consecutive game. They still keep top place with nine games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Klosterneub. who have the same record.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Xion Dukes as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (BC Vienna) loss. Xion Dukes defeated 4th ranked Redwell Gunners Oberwart in Klosterneuburg 77-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Redwell Gunners Oberwart. The winners were led by American swingman Curtis Bobb (198-78, college: Utah St.) who scored that evening 20 points and 7 rebounds and Moritz Lanegger supported him with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 23 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) by American forward Seamus Boxley (201-82, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Redwell Gunners Oberwart. Redwell Gunners Oberwart's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Xion Dukes have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with BC Vienna. Redwell Gunners Oberwart at the other side dropped to the fifth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Gmunden.
Eighth-ranked Furstenfeld Panthers (11-17) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Raiffeisen Wels (18-10) on Sunday. The visitors from Wels managed to secure only one-point victory 87-86. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Furstenfeld Panthers. The best player for the winners was DeVaughn Washington who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Raiffeisen Wels' coach Pete Miller used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Tyrone Sally produced 19 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Raiffeisen Wels have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Furstenfeld Panthers keep the eighth position with 17 games lost. They share it with UBSC Graz.
Bottom-ranked Arkadia Lions managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they edged tenth-ranked St.Polten 84-82. Fabricio Vay orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 8 rebounds. Arkadia Lions (4-24) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated St.Polten.

In the last game of round 32 Gussing lost to Gmunden on the opponent's court 82-86.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 32 points by Maksim Kovacevic of St.Polten.

St.Polten - Arkadia 82-84

Bottom-ranked Arkadia Lions managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they edged tenth-ranked St.Polten 84-82. It looked good early as St.Polten took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Arkadia Lions had a 26-20 second period charge getting the lead and St.Polten was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-84. Italian-Argentinian forward Fabricio Vay (206-86, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 8 rebounds. Montenegrin power forward Radosav Spasojevic (204-92, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Serbian swingman Maksim Kovacevic (199-87) replied with 32 points and the former international forward Martin Speiser (202-83) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for St.Polten. Arkadia Lions (4-24) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated St.Polten.

Gmunden - Gussing 86-82

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Gussing Knights' (14-16) road loss to sixth ranked Gmunden Swans (18-12) 82-86. It looked good early as Gussing Knights took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Gmunden Swans had a 25-10 second period charge getting the lead and Gussing Knights were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-86. 24 personal fouls committed by Gussing Knights helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Robert Arnold (198-88, college: Boise St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Dan Oppland (203-84, college: Valparaiso, agency: SportsTalent) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Marcus Heard (201-84, college: De Paul) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and forward Dario Hunt (203-89, college: Nevada) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks in the effort for Gussing Knights. Five Gmunden Swans and four Gussing Knights players scored in double figures. Gussing Knights' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gmunden Swans moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Oberwart. Gussing Knights lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 16 games lost.

The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Raiffeisen Wels made 24-of-25 free shots (96.0 percent) during the game, while Furstenfeld Panthers only scored eight points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Redwell Gunners Oberwart won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Xion Dukes won last quarter 22-19. Redwell Gunners Oberwart was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch.
