The Regular Season in Balkan League just ended. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.


Galil Gilboa - Levski Sofia 72-70

Balkan League round 10 caused change at the leadership position. Third defeat of league's leader Bulgarian Levski Sofia (5-3) against second ranked Israeli Galil Gilboa (6-2) 72-70 was the most important game of the last round. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-70. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Kenny Hayes (188-87, college: Miami, OH, agency: Priority Sports) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 5 assists. point guard Nimrod Tishman (197-91) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) replied with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Dimitar Dimitrov (202-93, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points in the effort for Levski Sofia. Four Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Galil Gilboa finished on top of Group A ladder. Levski Sofia advanced into the next round from the second position.

Djuro Djakovic - Levski Sofia 82-71

Leading Bulgarian Levski Sofia (5-3) recorded its second loss in Slavonski Brod. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Croatian Djuro Djakovic (4-4) 82-71. The game was mostly controlled by Djuro Djakovic. Levski Sofia was better in third quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Djuro Djakovic players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Levski Sofia's players. Guard Hrvoje Puljko (193-83) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Marino Sarlija (207-89) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Djuro Djakovic players scored in double figures. At the losing side Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) scored 17 points. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.

Rilski Sportist - Kavala 100-71

The game in Samokov supposed to be also worth to mention about. Greek Kavala (4-4) played at the court of Bulgarian Rilski Sportist (5-3). Rilski Sportist smashed Kavala 100-71. The game was mostly controlled by Rilski Sportist. Kavala was better in fourth quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rilski Sportist forced 25 Kavala turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 18 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Rilski Sportist players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Kavala's players. 27 personal fouls committed by Kavala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) fired 29 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) chipped in 25 points and 5 steals (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). American-Greek center Steve Panos (206-88, college: Weber St.) produced 16 points and forward Dimitris Kalampakas (202-89) added 14 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rilski Sportist claimed the top position in Group B. Kavala also managed to make it into Top 6 after they occupied the third position in the standings.

Djuro Djakovic - Kumanovo 84-77

Very important is a road loss of third ranked FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 (4-4) against fourth ranked Croatian Djuro Djakovic (4-4) on Tuesday night. Visiting Kumanovo 2009 was defeated by Djuro Djakovic in a tough game in Slavonski Brod 77-84. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kumanovo 2009 won fourth quarter 13-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Djuro Djakovic made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Guard Hrvoje Puljko (193-83) notched 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Toni Brnas (201-91) supported him with 23 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Djuro Djakovic players scored in double figures. Even 30 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Aleksandar Kostoski (186-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) did not help to save the game for Kumanovo 2009. Swingman Ivica Dimcevski (194-89, agency: Interperformances) added 19 points for lost side. Despite victory Djuro Djakovic could not leave the fourth position and would have to play in Last 4. Kumanovo preserved the third position and stayed in the title race.

OKK Beograd - Teodo Tivat 74-75

Important game to mention about took place in Beograd. Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (5-3) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging Serbian OKK Beograd (2-6) 75-74 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of OKK Beograd. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 19-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Teodo Tivat finished the regular season in the second position in Group B. OKK Beograd remained at the bottom of the ladder.

Kumanovo - Beroe 73-77 Beroe celebrated Balkan League title. The Bulgarian side upset Kumanovo on the road to sweep the championship series.
