Round 5 (Second Stage): Derby game ends with Levski Sofia's defeat of Rilski Sportist - Mar 26, 2013

There will be only one (last) round of the Second Stage in Balkan League.

The most interesting game of round 5 was a derby match between two teams from Bulgaria. The game took place in Samokov where first ranked Levski Sofia won against host Rilski Sportist (4-5) 74-69. Rilski Sportist trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 25-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-74 at the end of the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Rilski Sportist helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 4 assists. Serbian center Mladen Pantic (209-82, agency: Alti Sport) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) answered with 19 points and 5 assists for Rilski Sportist. Levski Sofia (7-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place. Rilski Sportist at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Levski Sofia are looking forward to face Teodo Tivat (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rilski Sportist will play against the league's second-placed Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American forward Anthony Lee-Ingram (195-88, college: Brescia, KY, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Uros Lukovic chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kumanovo 2009's coach Ljubislav Lukovic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Manuel Johnson (201-83, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Kumanovo 2009 maintains third place with 5-4 record having just two points less than leader Kozuv. Teodo Tivat lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Kumanovo 2009 will play against Kavala (#5) on the road in the next round. Teodo Tivat will play against the league's leader Levski Sofia and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The most impressive performance of 5th round was 29 points and 7 rebounds by Ivica Dimcevski of Kumanovo.

Kumanovo - Teodo Tivat 96-90

The game between third ranked FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 (5-4) and 6th ranked Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (2-7) in Kumanovo ended with biggest points difference. Kumanovo 2009 beat guests from Tivat 96-90. The hosts were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 18 after three quarters before a 32-20 last quarter charge of Teodo Tivat cut the lead to 96-90 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Teodo Tivat 38-24 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Teodo Tivat was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Kumanovo - Beroe 73-77 Beroe celebrated Balkan League title. The Bulgarian side upset Kumanovo on the road to sweep the championship series. Kumanovo was trailing by 16 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 24-17 charge of Beroe, which allowed them to win the game.
