The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Bulgarian Levski Sofia as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group A. Levski Sofia smashed second-ranked FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 at home 103-66. The game was mostly controlled by Levski Sofia. Kumanovo 2009 managed to win third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levski Sofia dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Kumanovo 2009's 40. Levski Sofia forced 20 Kumanovo 2009 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Kumanovo 2009's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 4 assists and center Nikolay Varbanov (210-85, agency: Interperformances) who added 16 points during the contest. Serbian forward Dejan Mikic (201-86) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Kumanovo 2009 at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost. Kumanovo 2009 will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Levski Sofia will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Kumanovo 2009 at home.
Serbian OKK Beograd has finally registered their first victory this season after five consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Greek Kavala (3-3) 85-76. The winners were led by power forward Milos Pavlovic (210-84, agency: BeoExcell) who scored that evening 16 points and 9 rebounds and Milorad Sutulovic supported him with 17 points. OKK Beograd's coach Srdjan Jekovic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points and 8 rebounds by FYR Macedonian power forward Bojan Krstevski (205-89, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Kavala. OKK Beograd maintains tenth position in Group B with 1-5 record. Kavala at the other side dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. OKK Beograd will play against higher ranked Rilski Sportist (#6) in Samokov in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kavala will play at home against Teodo Tivat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game took place in Gevgelija where 6th ranked Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (4-2) was upset on the court of ninth ranked FYR Macedonian Kozuv (4-4) 84-71 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was Slobodan Bozovic who scored 31 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Kozuv's coach Marjan Srbinovski used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Savo Djikanovic produced 16 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Kozuv moved-up to eighth place in Group B. Loser Teodo Tivat dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Rilski Sportist. Kozuv will again meet at home higher ranked Teodo Tivat (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Teodo Tivat will play against Kavala and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
