Belarus advanced into the U20 European Championship semifinal stage. They knocked down French counterparts in the quarterfinal clash in Samsun today. Maryia Papova (186-PF-94) finished with impressive 18 points, 14 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks to lead the winners.
Belarus used a 7:0 run midway through the opening quarter to post a 12:6 lead. They entered the second quarter up by six points 17:11. Darya Lipinskaya (180-SG-93) scored five points in a 7:0 run from Belarus at the start of the second quarter. Belarus kept Les Bleus at bay throughout the second stanza. Belarus accumulated a 32:22 halftime lead. But France were far from being done. Sabrine Bouzenna (169-PG-93) sparked a comeback rally from the team as they grabbed a 38:36 lead midway through the third term. The lead changed hands for several times before Voishal drained a triple and send Belarus into the fourth period up by two points 47:45. Darya Lipinskaya and Baklaha stretched the margin at 7-point mark early in the fourth frame. France got within four points with under two minutes remaining 56:60 but Belarus kept their opponents scoreless in the reminder of the contest to clinch the victory. Darya Lipinskaya netted 17 points, while Hanna Kalenta (190-C-94) added 9 points for the winning side. Christelle Diallo (190-C-93) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds for France. Sabrine Bouzenna had 10 points in the losing case.
