Belgian Ethias League round 28 best performance: Matt Lojeski - May 13, 2013

Matt Lojeski
American guard Matt Lojeski (198-G-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Oostende, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 28.
The 27-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, four rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush Aalstar (#4, 17-11) with 25-point margin 115-90. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Oostende to consolidate first place in the Belgian Ethias League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Oostende has a very solid 20-8 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Lojeski has many years of experience at Oostende, through which he has constantly improved. Former University of Hawaii star has very solid stats this year. Lojeski is in league's top in points (5th best: 17.3ppg) and averages impressive 62.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old American Jason Love (206-F/C-87) of Antwerp. Love had a very good evening with a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds. Of course he lead Antwerp to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Liege (#7, 8-20) 85-60. Antwerp's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 17-11 record is not bad and everything may still change. Love is a newcomer at Antwerp and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was U.S. Virgin Islands forward Ivan Aska (200-F-90) of Leuven (#6). Aska showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Aska's great performance Leuven lost 65-70 to the higher-ranked Spirou (#2, 19-9). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Leuven not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 19 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Aska could try to bring Leuven's a little bit higher in the standings. Aska has individually a great season in Belgium. After 25 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.1rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Derek Raivio (190-SG-84) of Aalstar - 28 points and 2 rebounds
5. Jean Salumu (193-F-90) of Oostende - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Brent Wright (203-F/C-78) of Oostende - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Dusan Djordjevic (195-G-83) of Oostende - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Ryan Thompson (198-G-89) of Aalstar - 21 points and 3 rebounds
9. Bryan Hopkins (183-PG-83) of Antwerp - 23 points and 4 rebounds
10. Monwell Randle (203-F/C-83) of M.Hainaut - 12 points and 7 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
