American Derek Raivio (190-SG-84) had a very impressive game in the last round for Aalstar and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 20. The 28-year old shooting guard had the game-high 33 points adding four rebounds and three assists for Aalstar in his team's victory, helping them to beat Verviers-Pep. (#8, 4-16) 94-86. Aalstar maintains the 4th position in Belgian Ethias League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Aalstar will need more victories to improve their 13-7 record. In the team's last game Raivio had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Aalstar's top player in his first season with the team. Gonzaga University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Raivio is in league's top in points (3rd best: 17.1ppg), assists (9th best: 3.4apg) and averages solid 53.2% FGP and 43.3% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 31-year old American point guard Timothy Black (178-PG-81, agency: Limelight Hoops) of Antwerp. Black impressed basketball fans with 22 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course he lead Antwerp to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Leuven (#6, 6-13) 89-66. Antwerp's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Black is one of the most experienced players at Antwerp and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was international guard Niels Marnegrave (191-PG-87) of Leuven (#6). Marnegrave scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Marnegrave's great performance Leuven lost 66-89 to slightly higher-ranked Antwerp (#5, 10-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Leuven not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Marnegrave could try to bring Leuven's a little bit higher in the standings. Marnegrave has individually a great season in Belgium. After 17 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 5.1apg (2nd best). He also has 2.7spg and FGP: 51.5%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Lee Cummard (201-SG-85) of Aalstar - 14 points and 10 rebounds 5. Jerime Anderson (187-PG-89) of Verviers-Pep. - 25 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Justin Cage (198-F-85) of M.Hainaut - 18 points and 9 rebounds 7. Christopher Young (206-F/C-79) of Aalstar - 8 points and 9 rebounds 8. Roel Moors (190-G-78) of Antwerp - 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists 9. Bryan Hopkins (183-PG-83) of Antwerp - 18 points and 4 rebounds 10. Josh Bostic (196-F-87) of M.Hainaut - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
