Cuva Houthalen vs. BBC Haantjes Oudenaarde: 93-78
Nice first home win for Cuva Houthalen in the 2013-14 Division II competition. Cuva's roster does not include combo guard Jason Westrol (191-G-88, college: Bentley) and forward Brian Tracey (195-F-88, college: Bentley) anymore. The two US players Westrol and Tracey will play respectively for Ethias League team Stella Artois Leuven Bears and for Mattoni NBL team BK Lions Jindrichuv Hradec in 2013-14. Coach Brian Lynch has also left Houthalen to assist Coach Paul Vervaeck at Ethias League's Port of Antwerp Giants this coming season. Lynch will be replaced by Ludo Horions this season. Despite an excellent start by the visitors in this game (1-13 in the first 6 minutes) and many efforts by Thomas Van De Vondel (194-F/G-80) and Maarten Brysse (205-C-86) for the Haantjes, the hosts were led by their faithful US shooter Ronnie McCollum (192-G-78, agency: Two Points, college: Centenary, LA) and managed to stay on top in the second half of the game. Aleksander Peldic, the new coach of BBC Haantjes Oudenaarde hopes that his team will recover for next game against Soba Antwerpen to be played at home at the Rode Los on Sunday afternoon.
Score evolution: 20-21, 48-42, 82-61 and 93-78.
Best scorers:
Cuva: N/A
Haantjes: M. Verspeeten 2, N. Delepeleire 2, T. Arijs 2, J. Van Haevermaet 8, T. Van De Vondel 24, J. Hendrickx 8, G. Mestdag 4, M. Linskens 11, M. Brysse 17.

Soba Antwerpen vs. Basics Melsele: 61-65
Nice start for the visitors in this game involving two Division II newcoming sides. Basics Melsele's success should not be considered as a surprise as the team of Coach Ronny Bayer (the former Belgian MVP and Belgian NT playmaker) is well balanced and could definitely be a tough challenger in this competition. Several experienced players like Dave Dhaens (210-C-81) and Constantin Tshimuanga have decided to join Basics Melsele last summer. If you add young local talents like Niels Xhaet and Niels Hofmans (184-PG-91) (out for a feew weeks), you understand perfectly well why most Division II observers expect a great season for Basics Melsele. Soba of Coach Glenn De Boeck will travel to Oudenaarde next weekend and should already react to stay in the race.
Best scorers:
Soba: N/A
Basics: T. Lamot 13.

Port of Antwerp Giants II vs. CEP Fleurus: 74-84
Nice first win away for the men of Coach Patrick Verdun and President Giovanni Mureddu. Joeri Moonen (205-F-84) has already shown some great skills in preseason games with his new team CEP Fleurus and scored 15 points in the regular season opening game against the Giants II. Special mentions to Kevin Jonniaux (198-G-83), Thomas Bauwens (192-F-86) and Louis Hazard (199-F-94) who were also well present in offense for CEP F in this game. The young players of Port of Antwerp Giants II have not shown any sign of exhaustion and finished only 10 points behind. This season again, Port of Antwerp Giants II of Coach Luc Smout will play all home games in the small Sporthal Roosendael, Speelpleinstraat 1, in Merksem.
Best scorers:
Giants II: N/A
CEP F: K. Jonniaux 15, T. Depouhon 9, C. Manzanza 2, A. Marion 2, J. Moonen 15, T. Bauwens 17, L. Hazard 16, C. Ilongo 8

Gent Hawks vs. Sint-Jan Antwerp: 86-83
The Gentenaars of Coach Wim Meiresonne and Sports Manager Eric Rogiers trailed behind in the first half but always remained very close. Sebastien Bellin (205-C-78, agency: Prossin Sports Management Inc., college: Oakland) and Laurent Lhote (182-PG-84) boosted the Hawks who took a first lead at 61-60 in the third quarter. Senne Geukens (190-G-83), despite many efforts, was never really able to make a difference for Sint-Jan and only Idris Lasisi (188-G/F, college: Whitworth) and Vinnie Haerbos (180-PG-90) kept the visitors on the right track. After several turnovers by the Jantjes, the Hawks did not miss the chance to nail some shots and deserved the win. Sint-Jan keeps looking for some reinforcement and, together with Gembo BBC, remains a favourite team of many observers for this season's title.
Score evolution: 27-28, 47-49, 69-70 and 86-83.
Best scorers:
Hawks: R. Spaens 14, Y. Vandeveire 4, G. Depooter 15, R. Luyten 6, J.-P. De Decker 16, L. Lhote 15, S. Bellin 16
Sint-Jan: V. Haerbos 17, A. Rojas Palmas 5, B. Raes 2, I. Lasisi 15, A. Druwez 10, S. Geukens 12, V. Kesteloot 8, P. Hilliman 4, M. Brown 10.

Gembo BBC vs. Union Mons Hainaut II: 106-50
The young squad of Union Mons Hainaut II never looked able to react in this game. Gembo BBC of Coach Stefan Sappenberghs gave no chance to their opponents by quickly setting successful fastbreaks and hitting unchallenged long-range shots indeed. Maxence Renard (180-PG-94), Thimotee Traversin (176-PG-95) and Lorenzo Giancaterino (190-F/G-90) were missing on the visitors' side. The full court press set by the double Division II champions was very impressive and all Gembo players took part in scoring. Tremendous dunks by Arno Mollekens (200-PF-94) and French player Nicolas Wachowiak (198-F/G-91) put a final nice touch to this large Gembo success. Walking along the sideline next to the visitors' bench, Coach Vincent Bouffioux looked very unhappy about his Young Foxes' non-performance and expects a nice reaction of his guys next weekend.

Essor Charleroi (Spirou B) vs. Turuka 90 Willebroek: 41-79
Another newcoming team in Division II has had a great start: Turuka 90 Willebroek of Coach Toon Labbeke! Special mention to Turuka shooter Tom Van den Bosch (190-G/F-84) who scored 27 points in this game.
Best scorers:
Essor (Spirou B): L. Lefever 4, L. Van den Berghe 13, Y. Diop 12, M. Lebrun 6, J. Charles 4, M. Pfugler 2.
Turuka 90: G. Crucifix 12, N. Lataire 13, K. Roelandts 5, T. Van den Bosch 27, L. De Campos 10, J. Casteels 12.

Bent Schoenen Waregem vs. BT Holstra Wevelgem: 89-65
In the Division II opening weekend, BS Waregem left no chance to their neighbours of BT Holstra Wevelgem. Sebastien Vermeulen (207-F/C-81, 12 points, 9 rebounds), Brecht Guillemyn (192-F-87, 16 points, 5 rebounds), Bart Willy Samaey (199-C-87) (16 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals) and Thomas Foucart (195-F-84, 14 points) had excellent stats for the hosts. Experienced Belgian forward Tom Van de Keere (201-G/F-78, college: Fair Dickinson) had 16 points for the losing side.
Free video highlights on Focus WTV: http://www.focus-wtv.tv/video/waregem-heeft-geen-kind-aan-wevelgem
Score evolution: 25-12, 47-27, 74-43 and 89-65.
Best scorers:

Holstra: J. Vandenberghe 12, T. Van De Keere 16, K. Lautrie 2, C. Castelein 8, J. Velghe 4, A. Byttebier 19, N. Hanssens 4.

Sint-Niklase Condors vs. Point Chaud Sprimont: 81-68
Maxime Depuydt (192-F-92), Niels Maris (196-F-89) and Bjorn De Beukeleer (185-G/F-89) were among the best Condors last weekend. Coach Steven Ibens saw his team win a first tough game and told the press that he was happy to start the season with a victory that should build self-confidence among the Condors. The 21 points scored by Gaetan Hertay (195-F-88) for Point Chaud Sprimont were not sufficient and the Walloon team eventually recorded a first loss in the 2013-14 competition. The Greens of Coach Pascal Horion were given few second chances by the Condors who grabbed many crucial rebounds and played a tough defense through the whole game.
Best scorers:
Condors: W. Scheirs 13.
PC Sprimont: J. Stas 9, F. Delsaute 5, S. Lenglois 1, G. Vrancken 3, A. Glaude 4, F. Forthomme 13, J. Flagothier 9, G. Hertay 21, G. Donnay 3.

Euromillions League Round 32: Antwerp Giants are defeated by Spirou Charleroi - 2 days ago
The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 4 rounds. The most important game in the last round took place in Charleroi between second ranked Antwerp Giants (20-12) and seventh ranked Spirou Charleroi (15-17) on Wednesday night. Antwerp Giants were defeated by Spirou Charleroi in a tough game on the road 78-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Antwerp Giants. Spirou Charleroi m...   [read more]
