Andrija Stipanovic joins BIH NT - Apr 23, 2013

Andrija Stipanovic (209-C-86) will be on the preliminary roster of Aco Petrovic. Mostar-native Stipanovic confirmed rumours that emerged these days to Bosnian online media
During the whole season media tried to reveal names of players who could join the extended roster of Aleksandar Petrovic. Despite most experts believed that Petrovic will try to find a SG or SF Petrovic surprisingly picked a center who reminds of Ermin Jazvin, the extremely strong former NT center.
Stipanovic is very strong, rather athletic and good rebounder considering his size showing great hustle but on the other he is not known to be the best FT shooter around.

Who are the other candidates?

Ognjen Kuzmic (215-C-90) - A tremendous talent who has been called by GSW to join their summerleague team. Coach Petrovic confirmed that Kuzmic played a great season and he is keen to see Ognjen in his roster for Slovenia but that he can t accept to grant guaranteed playtime. He is a fantastic defender who rebounds very well, great timing reading the game very well helping his teammates timely. On the offensive end he has some nice moves in the paint, gets his offensive boards and shoots even from midrange very well. Has definitely great chances to make it among the last 12 and would get plenty of minutes.

Nedzad Sinanovic (221-C-83) - Sinanovic is the most experienced player who regularly contributes in the best league of the world except the NBA. He has played good qualifiers and has been the clearly best (help) defender among the Bosnian big men. He has even been better than Mirza Teletovic. However it seems that Petrovic needs to find a way to use the skills of Nedzad Sinanovic. Given the fact that he played the qualifiers he should have a guaranteed spot.

Jusuf Nurkic (212-C-94) - Nurkic is probably one of the best European centers of the 94 generation. He plays very physically, is a great rebounder and shotblocker enjoying a range up to threepoint-land, he knows how to dish an assist when he gets double teamed. However he plays currently his first season and he needs some work on his right hand. He is an NBA player in the making but this EC is likely to be without him.

Edin Bavcic (209-F/C-84, agency: Beo Basket) - Edin Bavcic has been drafted by the Sixers (they hold the rights) and was expected to be the first Bosnian NBA player. However Bavcic never fully evolved to the player he could be. He has been a tweener and he improved clearly when he focused on becoming one of the best shooters on the 4/5 instead on being the biggest SF ever. In Lithuania he stopped Ante Tomic and was a key to the success against Croatia. Last week he scored 33 points in Greece giving proof how much he can give if he gets some trust by his coach.

Boris Savovic (210-F-87, agency: Beo Basket) - Savovic combines the things BIH needs most to be one of the biggest surprises in Slovenia. Savovic is very athletic, can shoot the ball from beyond the arc, has got an excellent post up game and is a ferocious rebounder. He would be the back up for Mirza Teletovic and would probably often be in the starting five covering the 5.

Miralem Halilovic (205-F-91) - Halilovic has been a tremendous talent and has even been scouted by NBA scouts. Great athletic skills and a decent shot made him to a promising player and the youngest captain in BIH league. However after he moved to KK Zagreb his body and his game changed and he stagnated. Now he is an inside player, still very athletic with a good and steadily improving post up game. In the recent Croatian play-offs he put some very nice games and he might get a call for the NT camp but it is rather unlikely that he will be among the 12. Not this time but if he keeps working and playing he will get his shot next time.

Elmedin Kikanovic (210-C-88, agency: Beo Basket) - Kikanovic has played the qualifiers very well. He scored persistently after grabbing offensive boards, with his nice midrange jumper or after getting free throws. However he had great problems on the defensive end where he often turned out to be a mismatch. He is too weak to guard strong centers or PF, not quick enough to be a great help defender, not having the power to keep his man away from the glass and secure the defensive rebound. Would probably be much more efficient as PF-back up of Mirza Teletovic than a center. In case Savovic confirms his debut Kikanovic might be an option as third PF who will also spend some minutes on the 5.

Monaco to bring in Elmedin Kikanovic - 1 day ago
AS Monaco Basket (ProA) reportedly agreed terms with 29-year old Bosnian international center Elmedin Kikanovic (211-105kg-88, agency: BeoBasket). He has played for the last two seasons at ALBA Berlin in German BBL league. In 36 games he had very impressive stats: 15.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.5apg last season. Kikanovic helped them to make it to the German Bundesliga Cup Semifinals. Quite impressive season as he was named to German Bundesliga All-Bosmans Team and to the All-Star G...   [read more]
