The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute susprises and upsets. Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

An interesting game for Levski Sofia (19-4) which hosted in Sofia 3rd placed Rilski Sportist (15-8). Second ranked Levski Sofia had an easy win 85-61. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-61. Levski Sofia made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. They also forced 21 Rilski Sportist turnovers. International Pavel Ivanov (200-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Serbian center Mladen Pantic (209-82, agency: Alti Sport) contributed with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Italian forward Angelo Caloiaro (203-89, college: USF) answered with 15 points and 6 rebounds for Rilski Sportist. Levski Sofia maintains second place with 19-4 record having just two points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Rilski Sportist at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. They share it with Balkan. Levski Sofia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sofia to the arena U20.

It was a great evening for American center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Dimitris Haritopoulos helped adding 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). International Martin Durchev (204-87) responded with 17 points and 4 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lukoil Academik have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-2 record. Tundja Yambol lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 12 games lost. Lukoil Academik will play against Chernomorets (#8) in Burgas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tundja Yambol will play at home against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 23: Spartak Pleven was smashed by Cherno More on the road 80-61. Beroe won against U20 on its own court 79-68. Chernomorets unfortunately lost to Balkan in Botevgrad 70-85.
The most impressive performance of 23th round was 32 points by Vladimir Panic of Balkan.


Cherno More - Spartak Pleven 80-61

The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Euroins Cherno More's (9-14) home victory over 9th ranked Spartak Pleven (5-18) in Varna 80-61. The game was mostly controlled by Euroins Cherno More. Spartak Pleven was better in fourth quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Euroins Cherno More dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak Pleven's 32. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 42-26 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for forward Simeon Iliev (203-89, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Stanislav Tsonkov (192-91) helped adding 16 points and 6 rebounds. Euroins Cherno More's coach Spas Natov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Tsvetoslav Ostrev (184-86) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and power forward Dimitar Marintchechki (201-90, agency: Dynamics Global Management) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five Euroins Cherno More and four Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Euroins Cherno More moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Chernomorets. Spartak Pleven lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 18 games lost. Euroins Cherno More will play against higher ranked Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Spartak Pleven will play on the road against Tundja Yambol (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (21-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Tundja Yambol (11-12) in Sofia 85-68. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Academik. Tundja Yambol was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Beroe - U20 79-68

Very expected game when 10th ranked U20 (1-22) lost to sixth ranked Beroe (10-13) in Stara Zagora 68-79. The game without a history. Beroe led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. U20 was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points. His fellow American import guard Will Walker (183-87, college: De Paul) helped adding 15 points and 7 assists. Forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds and Nikolay Stoyanov (195-94) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four U20 players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Beroe maintains sixth place with 10-13 record. U20 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay dead last with 22 lost games. Beroe will play against higher ranked Balkan (#3) in Botevgrad in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. U20's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sofia Levski Sofia.

Balkan - Chernomorets 85-70

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Balkan (15-8) won against 7th ranked Chernomorets (9-14) in Botevgrad 85-70. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Balkan's pressure prevailed and they won that period 32-20 extending their advantage to 15 points. They made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Serbian forward Vladimir Panic (194-82) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Martin Marinov (190-85) helped adding 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American center James Tyler (218-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds and forward Konstantin Koev (195-91) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Balkan. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Rilski Sportist. Chernomorets at the other side keeps the seventh position with 14 games lost. They share it with Cherno More. Balkan will play against Beroe (#6) in Stara Zagora in the next round. Chernomorets will play at home against the league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
