There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in NBL.

The most exciting game of round 25 in the NBL took place in Samokov. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th placed Rilski Sportist (15-10) to fifth ranked Tundja Yambol (13-12) 98-95 on Thursday evening. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 51-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Tundja Yambol outrebounded Rilski Sportist 39-20 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Tundja Yambol especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Brian Ormon (201-84, college: Mountain St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and international Martin Durchev (204-87) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. At the losing side naturalized Serbian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) responded with 23 points and 5 assists. Tundja Yambol maintains fifth place with 13-12 record. Rilski Sportist at the other side keeps the fourth position with ten games lost. Tundja Yambol are looking forward to face league's second-placed Levski Sofia on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rilski Sportist will play against Chernomorets in Burgas and is hoping to win this game.
NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (23-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Beroe (10-15) in Stara Zagora 84-73. Americans were the main players on the court. Center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Brandon Heath accounted for 13 points and 6 rebounds. Lukoil Academik's coach Sasho Vezenkov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) came up with 27 points and 6 rebounds for Beroe in the defeat. Lukoil Academik have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 23-2 record. Newly promoted Beroe keeps the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Cherno More and Chernomorets. Lukoil Academik will play against Balkan (#3) in Botevgrad in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Beroe will play at home against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Varna was also quite interesting. Second ranked Levski Sofia (21-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Euroins Cherno More (10-15). Levski Sofia managed to secure a 9-point victory 86-77 on Wednesday. Marko Marinovic fired 30 points and 9 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Asen Velikov produced 18 points and 9 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Levski Sofia. They maintain second place with 21-4 record having just two points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Loser Euroins Cherno More dropped to the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Chernomorets and Beroe. Levski Sofia will meet at home Tundja Yambol (#5) in the next round. Euroins Cherno More will play against U20 in Sofia and hope to secure a win.

Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Chernomorets moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Cherno More and Beroe. Spartak Pleven lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 20 games lost. Chernomorets' next round opponent will be higher ranked Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Spartak Pleven will play on the road against Beroe (#6) in Stara Zagora.

In the last game of round 25 Balkan won against U20 on the opponent's court 85-79.


Rilski Sportist - Tundja Yambol 95-98

U20 - Balkan 79-85

Very expected game in Sofia where 10th ranked U20 (1-24) was defeated by third ranked Balkan (17-8) 85-79. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But U20 won third quarter 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan made 30-of-35 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by U20 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Brazilian center Atila Santos (208-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: Warren Sports International) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Martin Marinov (190-85) contributed with 18 points and 4 assists for the winners. Five Balkan players scored in double figures. Naturalized Danish forward Tencho Tenchev (202-93, agency: Interperformances) answered with 18 points and 4 assists and Nikolay Stoyanov (195-94) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for U20. U20's coach Lyubomir Minchev rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Balkan. They maintain third place with 17-8 record having six points less than leader Lukoil Academik. U20 lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 24 lost games. Balkan's next round opponent will be league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and it will be for sure the game of the week. U20 will play on the road against Euroins Cherno More (#8) in Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Chernomorets - Spartak Pleven 83-69

Eighth ranked Chernomorets (10-15) beat at home 9th ranked Spartak Pleven (5-20) by 14 points 83-69, which is the biggest margin this round. It looked good early as Spartak Pleven took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Chernomorets had a 24-18 second period charge getting the lead and Spartak Pleven was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-83. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 41-27 including 32 on the defensive glass. Chernomorets brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American center James Tyler (218-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Bogdan Boev (196-82) contributed with 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Tyler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Power forward Dimitar Marintchechki (201-90, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds and center Denis Agre (203-88, college: Pepperdine) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Spartak Pleven. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (23-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Beroe (10-15) in Stara Zagora 84-73. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Academik. Beroe was better in fourth quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lukoil Academik dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 18. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Beroe's players. Americans were the main players on the court. Levski Sofia managed to secure a 9-point victory 86-77 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-77. Levski Sofia shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) fired 30 points and 9 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Serbian guard Nemanja Protic (182-86) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. The former international point guard Asen Velikov (185-86) produced 18 points and 9 assists and Croatian-Canadian center Ljubisa Vrcelj (210-84, college: Jacksonville) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side.
