Greece registered the first win at the classification round of U18 European Championship. They outgunned Bulgaria for 1-0 record in Group G. Georgios Diamantakos (214-C-95) nailed 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the winners.
Greece eked out a 22:19 lead after ten minutes. Bulgaria stiffened defensively in the second frame and did not allow the Hellenes to run away. Greece enjoyed a 35:32 halftime lead. But Greece stepped on the gas in the third period. They erupted for 28 points and cleared off to a 16-point distance at the final break. Greece fired 25 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the victory at the end. Dimitrios Stamatis (192-G-96) netted 18 points, while Alexandros Spyridonidis (190-PG-95) added 12 points in the victory. Aleksandar Milov (197-G-95) responded with 18 points for Bulgaria. Aleksandar Vezenkov (205-SF-95) added 13 points in the loss.

Samsunspor DSI (TBL) tabbed 31-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-104kg-86, agency: BeoBasket). He is not a newcomer in Turkish League as he played most recently at Yesilgiresun in Turkish BSL league. In 18 games he averaged 10.0ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.1apg last season. Balkan Botevgrad (NBL) added to their roster 27-year old American guard Brandon Fortenberry (190-84kg-90, college: SE Louisiana, agency: BeoBasket). It is actually his comeback to Botevgrad as he has played here before. Fortenberry played last season at Igokea in Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I, but left the team in Jan.'17. Rilski Sportist Samokov (NBL) landed 27-year old American forward Travis Taylor (203-100kg-90, college: Xavier). He played most recently at Fribourg Olympic in Swiss LNA league. In 31 games he averaged 14.7ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.9apg and 1.4spg last season. Taylor helped them to win the Supercup and make to league final.
