Slovenia U18 - Bulgaria U18 85:77

Slovenia celebrated the first win at the classification round of U18 European Championship. They defeated Bulgaria for 1-1 record in Group G. Matic Rebec (180-PG-95) nailed 29 points, issued 13 assists, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 4 steals to orchestrate victory. Bulgaria slipped at 0-2 record.
The teams traded baskets throughout the opening frame. Bulgaria and Slovenia were tied at 22-all after ten minutes. Things did not change in the second frame. The teams went neck and neck throughout the reminder of the first half. The scoreboard read 37:37 at halftime. Bulgaria pulled ahead in the third period. They erupted for 30 points and gained a 7-point lead at the final intermission. But Slovenia found the way to recover. Matic Rebec nailed 10 points in the quarter triggering a 25:10 run that sealed the win for his team. Ziga Zatezic (196-SG-95) finished with 14 points, while Domen Janc (185-PG-96) added 10 points for the winners. Aleksandar Vezenkov (205-SF-95) answered with 30 points and 10 rebounds for Bulgaria. Aleksandar Milov (197-G-95) chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Konstantin Papazov will return to coaching after couple of years rest. Papazov will be head coach for BC Levski 2014 Sofia, and will continue his duties as Chairman of the team. Titi Papazov had the most successful season coaching Levski back in 2014, when the team won historic treble. Financial colapse led the team to bankrupcy and Papazov formed a new club - BC Levski 2014 Sofia - which he is trying to develop from then on. Samsunspor DSI (TBL) tabbed 31-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-104kg-86, agency: BeoBasket). He is not a newcomer in Turkish League as he played most recently at Yesilgiresun in Turkish BSL league. In 18 games he averaged 10.0ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.1apg last season. Balkan Botevgrad (NBL) added to their roster 27-year old American guard Brandon Fortenberry (190-84kg-90, college: SE Louisiana, agency: BeoBasket). It is actually his comeback to Botevgrad as he has played here before. Fortenberry played last season at Igokea in Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I, but left the team in Jan.'17.
