Here is the weekly review of the top performing Croatian players, who play currently abroad.


Ante Tomic

   #1. This week's number one is former international center Ante Tomic (217-87, currently plays in Euroleague). He was the major contributor in a Regal FC Barcelona's victory against the sixth-ranked Caja Laboral (6-6) 83-74 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Tomic scored 14 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 27 minutes on the court. Regal FC Barcelona (11-1) is placed first in group F. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Top 16. So now every game will be critical. It's Tomic's first season with the team. Tomic is currently sixth on the list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (third place). He has very reliable stats this year: 11.7ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.8apg, 1.3bpg, 2FGP: 63.4%(111-175) and FT: 62.1% in the 22 games he played so far. Tomic played for the Croatian senior national team two years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Kresimir Loncar (210-83, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in Russia). He led Khimky to a 1-point victory against the closely-ranked Krasnie Krilya (6-5) 82-81 in the Russian PBL last Monday. Loncar scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. BC Khimky Moscow Region (9-4) is placed second in the PBL. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Loncar averages: 7.1ppg, 3.9rpg, 2FGP: 55.6%(20-36) and FT: 81.0%. He played for the Croatian national team in 2010.

   #3. The Croatian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84, currently plays in Euroleague). Ukic led his Greek team Panathinaikos to a 1-point victory against the second-ranked Real Madrid (9-3) 74-73 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. He scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. Panathinaikos Athens (8-4) is placed fourth in group E. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Top 16. So now every game will be important. This year Ukic's overall stats are: 9.6ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 49.5%, 3FGP: 35.7% and FT: 66.7% in the 21 games. He is also a member of the Croatian senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Jakov Vladovic (187-83, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Slovenia could not help Krka (9-17) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Vladovic's very good performance Krka was defeated 80-68 at home by the higher-ranked MZT Skopje (#7). He was the top scorer with 16 points. Vladovic also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. The Regular Season already ended in the Adriatic League. Vladovic is currently third on the league's list of best passers. His total stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 4.0rpg and 4.3apg. Vladovic used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2009.

   #5. Former U20 international center Jure Lalic (210-86, currently plays in Slovenia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jakov Vladovic. But that was another game of his team in Slovenian Telemach League which we would like to mention. Lalic led Krka to a victory over the fifth-ranked Helios (0-1) 73-57. He was MVP of the game. Lalic recorded 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was his first game for Krka this season. His team is placed first in Places 1-6 group. Lalic used to play for the Croatian U20 national team seven years ago.

Mario Delas

   #6. Power forward Mario Delas (207-90, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to Zalgiris' victory against the fifth-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (10-8) 69-62 in the VTB United League on Sunday night. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas (16-2) is placed first in group B. The Regular Season already ended in the VTB United League. Delas' total stats this season are: 5.6ppg and 3.4rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Croatian senior team four years ago.

   #7. Former international forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in a Vanoli Cremona's surprising victory against the second-ranked Banco di Sardegna Sassari (18-6) 108-91 in the Italian SerieA in Sunday night's game. Peric was the best player in that game. He scored 25 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 34 minutes. Vanoli Cremona (10-14) is placed ninth in the SerieA. Peric has relatively good stats this year: 13.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.5apg and 1.1spg in the 17 games. He used to play for the Croatian national team six years ago.

   #8. Power forward Sime Spralja (206-83, agency: Court Side, currently plays in Poland), who plays in the Polish TBL was not able to help Trefl Sopot (17-9) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Spralja's very good performance the second-placed Trefl Sopot was edged 69-67 on their home court in Sopot by the lower-ranked Anwil (#3) in the Places 1-6 group. He was the top scorer with 15 points. Spralja also added 5 rebounds. Spralja's total stats this season are: 8.9ppg and 3.1rpg. He used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2004.

   #9. International forward Damjan Rudez (208-86, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB was not able to secure a victory for CAI Zaragoza (14-12) in their last game. Despite Rudez's very good performance CAI Zaragoza lost 75-84 on their home court in Zaragoza to the leading Real Madrid. He was the top scorer with 15 points in 23 minutes. This year Rudez has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.1apg in the 26 games. He is also in the roster of the Croatian national team.

   #10. Center Ante Djugum (211-88, also represented by Court Side, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian Telemach League couldn't help Zlatorog (0-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Zlatorog (#6) was defeated 77-73 on their home court in Lasko by the second-ranked Maribor Messer in the Places 1-6 group. Djugum was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Djugum has reliable stats this season: 10.1ppg and 5.9rpg. He is a former U20 international player as five years ago he still played for the Croatian national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Tomislav Zubcic (208-90, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in VTB United League) managed to help Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in a victory against the ninth-ranked Azovmash 75-56 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Zubcic scored 5 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 20 minutes. This year Zubcic's total stats are: 3.9ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.6apg in the seven games. He used to play for the Croatian national team four years ago.

   #12. International center Luka Zoric (211-84, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Unicaja Malaga in their game against UCAM Murcia in the Spanish ACB. Zoric scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team was defeated 76-68. Zoric averaged so far 10.7ppg and 4.5rpg. He is also in the roster of the Croatian national team.

   #13. International swingman Krunoslav Simon (197-85, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) is a teammate of previously mentioned Luka Zoric. However that was another game of his team in Euroleague which brought him to that list. Simon, who plays in Spain couldn't help Unicaja Malaga (6-6) in their last game. Despite his good performance Unicaja Malaga (#5) lost 66-70 on the road to the leading CSKA Moscow in the group E of Euroleague. Simon was the second best scorer with 10 points in 33 minutes. Simon's stats this year are: 10.3ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.5apg in the 21 games. He is also Croatian national team player.

   #14. International swingman Fran Pilepic (193-89, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Gescrap BB in their game against Assignia Manresa in the Spanish ACB. Pilepic scored 7 points. His team was edged 82-79. This season Pilepic averages only 3.3ppg. He plays currently for the Croatian national team.

   #15. International point guard Rok Stipcevic (185-86, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a VL Pesaro's victory against the 11th-ranked Juvecaserta 77-66 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Stipcevic was the top player that evening. He scored 19 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 26 minutes. Stipcevic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.0apg and 1.4spg in the 11 games. Stipcevic is also in the roster of the Croatian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Croatian passport but never been selected to any of Croatian national teams:

   #1. Anthony Drmic (198-G/F-92, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Boise St. (9-7) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Drmic's very good performance the Boise St. was defeated 80-71 at home by the La Salle University. He scored 28 points (!!!) and grabbed 4 rebounds. The National Tournament Round 1 already ended in the NCAA. Drmic has reliable stats this season: 10.6ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.1apg. He has a dual citizenship: Croatian and Australian.

   #2. Igor Maric (196-F-85, currently plays in Slovenia) was the major contributor in a Maribor Messer's victory against the sixth-ranked Zlatorog (0-1) 77-73 in the Slovenian Telemach League last Wednesday. Maric recorded 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. KK Maribor Messer (1-0) is placed second in Places 1-6 group. Maric has reliable stats this year: 13.1ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg in the 19 games he played so far.

   #3. Experienced Stipe Modric (206-F-79, currently plays in Slovenia) led Geoplin Slovan to a victory over the leader Rogaska (12-8) 73-56 in the Slovenian Telemach League in Saturday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Modric scored 16 points and added 3 passes in 27 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 7-12. Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana (10-10) is placed second. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Modric averaged so far 10.7ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.7apg in the 12 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Croatian and Slovenian.

   #4. Milos Paravinja (212-C/F-79, currently plays in Slovenia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Stipe Modric. But that was another game of his team in Slovenian Telemach League which we would like to mention. Paravinja contributed to a Geoplin Slovan's victory against the third-ranked Elektra (9-11) 74-70. He recorded 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 7-12. Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana (10-10) is placed second. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Paravinja has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.4apg. He has both Croatian and Slovenian nationalities.

   #5. Marco Buljevic (197-G-87, agency: Court Side, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German ProA (second division) was not able to help ETB Wohnbau (11-17) in their last game. Despite Buljevic's very good performance ETB Wohnbau lost in an overtime 86-90 on the road to the league outsider (#16) USC Leipzig. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 34 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Buljevic averaged so far 10.9ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.9apg in the 28 games. He also holds two passports: Croatian and German. Despite Buljevic's Croatian nationality, he previously played for the German U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Croatian team.

   #6. Ljubisa Vrcelj (210-C-84, college: Jacksonville, currently plays in Bulgaria), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL was not able to secure a victory for Euroins Cherno More (5-1) in their last game. Despite Vrcelj's good performance the league leader Euroins Cherno More lost 72-76 in Botevgrad to the lower-ranked (#4) Balkan. He scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes. Vrcelj is ranked sixth on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 7.2rpg. This year he also averages: 11.2ppg in the 14 games. Vrcelj holds both Croatian and Canadian passports.

   #7. Igor Milicic (194-G-76, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in Poland) couldn't help AZS Koszalin in their game against Polpharma in the Polish TBL. He scored 8 points. His team was defeated 79-71. Milicic has averaged so far 5.3ppg, 1.6rpg and 2.6apg. He has Croatian and Polish nationalities.

   #8. Marin Petric (190-G-80, currently plays in Germany) helped Duesseldorf Baskets win their game against one of league's weakest teams Kirchheim Knights 80-71 in the German ProA (second division) in Saturday night's game. Petric recorded 12 points in a mere 18 minutes. He has averaged so far 9.9ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.7apg in the 27 games. Petric has dual citizenship: Croatian and German.

   #9. Milan Stegnjaic (204-F/C-81, currently plays in Austria), who plays in the Austrian A Bundesliga couldn't help UBSC Graz (11-16) in their last game. Despite his very good performance UBSC Graz was badly defeated 95-76 on the opponent's court by the one of league's weakest teams (#10) St.Polten. Stegnjaic had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 37 minutes. Stegnjaic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.3apg in the 27 games.

   #10. David Dolic (198-F-89, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Fileni BPA Jesi to win against the seventh-ranked Givova Scafati 73-72 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. Dolic scored only 3 points. This season he averages just 1.5ppg. Dolic has dual citizenship: Croatian and Italian.

Cedevita trailed just once and outebounded Jolly JBS 46-22 in a dominant 85-66 road victory in the Quarterfinals Game 1. Split used a 17-2 run that turn a two-point deficit into a 67-54 lead with two and a half minute remaining to beat Vrijednosnice Osijek 67-59. De Longhi Treviso Basket 2012 (Serie A2) tabbed 22-year old Croatian power forward Tomislav Gabric (204-95, agency: PEPI SPORT). He started the season at BCM U Pitesti in Romanian Liga Nationala. In 34 games he averaged 12.4ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.5apg this season. The last season Gabric played at Metalac in Serbian KLS where in 5 games he had 9.2ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.6spg.
