Here is the weekly review of the top performing Croatian players, who play currently abroad.


Ivona Bogoje

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international center Ivona Bogoje (193-76, agency: IPSA, currently plays in Serbia). She led Partizan to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Radivoj Korac (4-1) crushing them 93-61 in a derby game in the Serbian A League in Saturday night's game. Bogoje recorded 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes on the court. ZKK Partizan Galenika Beograd (1-0) is placed second in group x. This year Bogoje averages: 8.4ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 54.5% and FT: 69.2% in the five games she played so far. She played for the Croatian senior national team thirteen years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international center Sonja Kireta (198-76, currently plays in Italy). Kireta led Parma to a victory over the closely-ranked Priolo (7-12) 71-52 in the Italian A1 last Thursday. She was MVP of the game. Kireta recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added 2 blocks. Lavezzini Parma (14-5) is placed third in the A1. Kireta's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It's Kireta's first season with the team. Kireta is ranked seventh on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (second place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Kireta averages: 16.0ppg, 9.7rpg, 2FGP: 54.9% and FT: 69.1%. She played for the Croatian national team in 2007.

Sandra Mandir

   #3. The Croatian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Sandra Mandir (177-77, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL. Mandir could not help Istanbul Universitesi (15-11) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Istanbul Universitesi lost 66-80 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Mersin. Mandir was the top scorer with 18 points. She also added 4 rebounds in 25 minutes. They ended the series of seven consecutive victories. The Regular Season already ended. Mandir has relatively good stats this year: 11.9ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 47.3%, 3FGP: 40.7% and FT: 84.2% in the 10 games. She is also a member of the Croatian senior national team.

Petra Stampalija

   #4. Center Petra Stampalija (189-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB was not able to help Union Hainaut (5-19) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Stampalija's good performance the bottom-ranked Union Hainaut was defeated 75-60 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked Lyon (#3). She scored 14 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Stampalija has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.0apg and 1.2bpg. She used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2010.

   #5. International swingman Ana Lelas (183-83, currently plays in France) contributed to a Lattes Montpellier's victory against the 12th-ranked Mondeville (9-15) 71-62 in the French LFB last Saturday. Lelas scored 7 points in 24 minutes. Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration Basket (21-3) is placed first in the LFB. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Lelas' overall stats are: 8.8ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.8apg in the 24 games. She plays currently for the Croatian national team.

   #6. Point guard Iva Ciglar (168-85, agency: Data Plus Group, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB was not able to secure a victory for Perpignan (14-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Ciglar's good performance Perpignan was defeated 76-68 in Mont de Marsan by the lower-ranked Basket Landes (#6). She scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. Ciglar is currently fifth on the league's list of best passers. Her total stats this season are: 6.8ppg, 2.9rpg and 4.2apg. Ciglar is an international player who is currently on the senior Croatian National Team roster.

Emilija Podrug

   #7. Former international center Emilija Podrug (190-79, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Petra Stampalija in the French LFB last game. Podrug helped Lyon win their game against the league outsider Union Hainaut (5-19) 75-60. She scored 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in only 14 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Podrug's total stats are: 8.3ppg, 4.8rpg and 2.4apg in the 24 games. She used to play for the Croatian national team three years ago.

   #8. Center Dina Sesnic (188-87, also represented by IPSA, currently plays in Serbia) couldn't help Vojvodina (21-6) in their game against Crvena Zvezda (22-3) in the Serbian A League. She recorded 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 28 minutes. The fourth-placed Vojvodina was badly defeated 97-80 at home by the leading Crvena Zvezda in the group x. Sesnic has averaged so far 9.0ppg and 6.8rpg in the five games. She used to play for the Croatian U16 national team back in 2003.

   #9. International power forward Lisa Karcic (185-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Villanova, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Hondarribia-Irun (6-14) in their game against Rivas Ecopolis (19-1) in the Spanish LFB. Karcic recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Hondarribia-Irun was crushed 70-47 in Rivas by the leading Ecopolis. The Regular Season already ended. Karcic is ranked second on the list of the best blockers in the league and also on the list of most steals (second place). She has averaged so far 8.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.4apg and 2.4spg. Karcic is a naturalized American. She is also in the roster of the Croatian national team. Strangely Karcic has never played in Croatia.

   #10. Center Marija Rezan (198-89, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca in a victory against one of league's weakest teams Socinsa Bembibre (5-15) 70-61 in the Spanish LFB last Saturday. She recorded only 1 points and blocked 2 shots in 11 minutes. Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca (17-3) is placed second in the LFB. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Rezan has averaged so far 7.8ppg and 5.0rpg in the 12 games. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Croatian National Team roster.

   #11. International swingman Jelena Ivezic (182-84, currently plays in Turkey) helped Ceyhan Bld win their game against the league outsider Edremit crushing them 110-65 in the Turkish TKBL on Friday night. Ivezic scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Ivezic has reliable stats this season: 13.1ppg, 3.8rpg, 1.7apg and 1.5spg. She plays currently for the Croatian national team.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Croatian passport:

   #1. Jelena Radic (190-C-87, currently plays in Serbia), who plays in the Serbian A League could not help Radivoj Korac (4-1) to beat Partizan (5-0). Radic recorded only 4 points. The 13th-placed Radivoj Korac was crushed 93-61 in a derby game by the higher-ranked Partizan (#12) in the group x. Radic has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg.

Medvescak never trailed and allowed three ties in Game 2 of the 2017 Croatian Play-Off Finals, taking down Tresnjevka 2009 74-59 on road. This give Medvescak a 2-0 lead in the best of the five series. Anja Majstorovic (184-SF-94) scored 24 points, Patricija Bura (188-C-96) 14 and Iva Borovic (170-G-88) 12. Anja Majstorovic (184-SF-94) and Patricija Bura (188-C-96) both scored 11 points, Iva Todoric (174-F-93) came off the bench for 10 points and 13 rebounds, Iva Borovic (170-G-88) and Marija Rados (180-C-93) both added 10 points.
