We bring you last week's top performances from Croatians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Marija Rezan

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Marija Rezan (198-89, currently plays in Spain). She led Perfumerias Avenida to a victory over the sixth-ranked Jopisa Burgos (7-10) crushing them 83-60 in the Spanish LFB in Saturday night's game. Rezan was MVP of the game. She had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 14 rebounds. Rezan also added 2 blocks in 30 minutes on the court. Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca (13-3) is placed second in the LFB. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Rezan averages: 7.5ppg, 4.9rpg, 2FGP: 52.2% and FT: 75.0% in the eight games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Croatian senior national team.

Sonja Kireta

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international center Sonja Kireta (198-76, currently plays in Italy). Kireta was the main contributor in Parma's victory against the closely-ranked Taranto (11-5) 67-60 in the Italian A1 last Sunday. She was the best player in that game. Kireta recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 12 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Lavezzini Parma (12-4) is placed third in the A1. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Kireta's first season with the team. Kireta is currently sixth on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (third place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Kireta averages: 15.8ppg, 9.9rpg, 2FGP: 53.4% and FT: 69.1%. She played for the Croatian national team in 2007.

Ana Lelas

   #3. The Croatian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Ana Lelas (183-83, currently plays in France). Lelas was the major contributor in a Lattes Montpellier's victory against the fifth-ranked Lyon (12-9) 66-61 in the French LFB on Saturday night. She scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 26 minutes. Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration Basket (18-3) is placed first in the LFB. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Lelas' overall stats are: 9.6ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 41.9%, 3FGP: 36.0% and FT: 95.1%(39-41) in the 21 games. She is also a member of the Croatian senior national team.

   #4. Center Emilija Podrug (190-79, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Ana Lelas in the French LFB last game. Podrug, who plays in the French LFB could not help Lyon (12-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance Lyon was defeated 66-61 on the road by the leading Lattes Montpellier. Podrug scored 14 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Podrug's total stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 4.3rpg and 2.5apg. She used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2010.

International guard Sandra Mandir (177-77, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Tarsus Bld (14-7) crushing them 80-56 in the Turkish TKBL last Sunday. Mandir was the top player that evening. She scored 21 points and added 3 assists in 25 minutes. Istanbul Universitesi SK (11-10) is placed sixth in the TKBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. Mandir has relatively good stats this year: 11.2ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.7apg in the six games. She plays currently for the Croatian national team.

   #6. Swingman Jelena Ivezic (182-84, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked TED Ankara (7-14) crushing them 72-49 in the Turkish TKBL on Saturday night. Ivezic was the top player that evening. She scored 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). Ceyhan Belediyespor (10-11) is placed seventh in the TKBL. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This season Ivezic has relatively solid stats: 12.7ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.5apg and 1.6spg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Croatian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international center Petra Stampalija (189-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in France) was not able to help Union Hainaut (5-16) in their game against Nantes Reze (10-11) in the French LFB, despite her good performance in Friday night's game. Stampalija scored 10 points, had 9 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 2 blocks in 37 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Union Hainaut lost 55-60 at home to the much higher-ranked (#7) Nantes Reze. Stampalija has reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 3.3apg and 1.4bpg in the seven games. She used to play for the Croatian national team three years ago.

   #8. Point guard Iva Ciglar (168-85, agency: Data Plus Group, currently plays in France) contributed to Perpignan's victory against the 11th-ranked Charleville-Mezieres (8-13) 73-59 in the French LFB last Saturday. Ciglar scored 9 points and added 3 assists. Perpignan Basket (14-7) is placed third in the LFB. Ciglar is currently fifth on the list of best passers. Her total stats this season are: 6.6ppg, 2.8rpg and 4.1apg. Ciglar plays currently for the Croatian national team.

Lisa Karcic

   #9. International power forward Lisa Karcic (185-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Villanova, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Hondarribia-Irun (5-13) in their game against Cadi ICG Software (9-8) in the Spanish LFB. Karcic recorded 7 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Hondarribia-Irun was defeated 62-57 in Seu D'urgell by the higher-ranked Cadi ICG Software (#4). It was Hondarribia-Irun's sixth consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Karcic is currently fourth on the list of best blockers and also on the list of most steals (third place). Her total stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.2apg and 2.3spg. Karcic is a naturalized American. She is also in the roster of the Croatian national team. Strangely Karcic has never played in Croatia.

   #10. Center Dina Sesnic (188-87, currently plays in Adriatic League) couldn't help Vojvodina (14-6) in their game against PEAC-PECS (14-6) in the Adriatic League. She recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 32 minutes. The fourth-placed Vojvodina lost 74-79 in Pecs to the higher-ranked (#3) PEAC-PECS in the group T of Adriatic League. This year Sesnic's total stats are: 9.0ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.1spg in the 19 games. She is a former U16 international player as ten years ago she still played for the Croatian national team.

   #11. Former U16 international guard Tomica Bacic (182-87, college: Iona, currently plays in Ireland) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Singleton crushing them 78-44 in a derby game in the Irish Superleague on Saturday night. Bacic recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 17 rebounds. Bacic is currently third on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (second place). This season she has very high stats. Bacic averages: 19.1ppg, 10.1rpg, 1.8apg and 1.2bpg. She used to play for the Croatian U16 national team ten years ago.

Iva Grbas (188-F/C-87, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in Limoges' victory against the seventh-ranked Laveyron (9-9) crushing them 82-57 in the French LF2 (12th division) on Saturday night. She recorded 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 33 minutes. Limoges ABC en Limousin (4-13) is placed 11th in the LF2. It was her team's first victory after five consecutive loses. Grbas is ranked fourth on the list of the top scorers in the league with 15.7ppg. This year her other stats are: 5.9rpg and 1.1spg in the 15 games she played so far.

   #2. Jelena Radic (190-C-87, currently plays in Adriatic League) managed to help Radivoj Korac Beograd in a victory against the closely-ranked PEAC-PECS (14-6) crushing them 68-43 in the Adriatic League in Saturday night's game. Radic recorded only 4 points in 16 minutes. Radivoj Korac Beograd (16-4) is placed second in group T. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Radic has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1apg in the 20 games.

Medvescak and Tresnjevka 2009 both won their semifinal series in a 2-0 sweep. The first match from the best-of-five series will be played on April 26.
