Stefanos
Iliadis
Another two defeats for the Cyprus NT with the one against the Finnish being a total thrash since the young Cypriots lost with 50 points difference while on the yesterdays game against the not so better team of Belgium the Cyprus NT lost with 59-66. So at this stage with a record of 1-3 is at the last spot of the group with minimum chances to succeed something better than the games for the 9-12 position.

The Cyprus NT in general could have done better especially against the Dutch and the Belgians two games which the result could have been different with minor changes. Never the less the facts and figures are there, is a matter of better organization, better methodology and of course above all planning, something which is obviously missing all these years from the Basketball federation. Lets hope that from now and on this will be slightly changed in the short term future as otherwise the talents like Stefanos Iliadis (185-PG-94), Ieronymides, Eleftheriou, Roberto Alexander Mantovani (200-F-94) and the others will be lost like many others the last decade.
In regards to the game against Belgium now (as it is pointless to analyze the -50 points defeat from Finland) the game had many ups and downs for the two teams but the steadier finally won. Belgium begun the game with obviously offensive rhythm while the young Cypriots were still breezed by the Finnish nightmare of the previous night and couldnt score at all with Matnovani and Ieronymides being off mood and the Cyprus NT getting the points only from the amazing (last night) Stefanos Iliadis. So in the first 5 minutes, Cyprus scored 4 points and the slow paste was continuing. By the end of the first period, the Cyprus NT scored 11 points against 17 of the Belgians with the score being quite normal since Papamichael scored 4 points which were unexpected as he was not among the players used seriously in the previous games for the NT.

The second period was even worst for the Cyprus NT, in fact it was the worst period of the game for the Cypriots. Even though Papamichael scored his 5th points (the first 5 points of the young player in the tournament) missing the one of 2 free throws, the Cyprus NT remain pointless for the next three minutes with the Belgians increasing their deficit to +10, 12-22 and in the next 2 minutes the score reminded us a bit the game against Finnish the previous day with a nearly double figures (15-29) 5.05 before the end of the first half and 18-36, a minute before the end. The final 18-39 of the first half reminded a lot the previous night for the Cyprus NT from which only Stefanos Iliadis was able to fight back the well organized team of Belgium, a country which is not famous for their level of basketball

The third period though was the best for the Cyprus NT since Ieronymides and Roberto Alexander Mantovani with Eleftheriou backed up Stefanos Iliadis and by keeping the Belgians initially 4 minutes without a point cut the deficit to 28-39 (10-0), and then they cut it even more to end up to 38-46 with Antonious lay-up at the end of the third period.

The fourth and final period, where the young Cypriots could have done their total recall, this never happened as the Belgians played smart and never let the players of Yiannaras to do their game (lets not forget that the NT is playing mainly with 5-7 players since the other players do not get some serious time in the court, and on the other hand, most of our opponents have at least 8-9 players to split the time) so with all and all, the Cyprus NT cut the deficit only at the end and the final 59-66 is obviously a fair result.
Top scorers:
Cyprus: Stefanos Iliadis 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, Roberto Alexander Mantovani 10 points and 7 rebounds, Eleftheriou 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Ieronymides 10 points and 5 rebounds
Belgium: Louis Hazard (199-F-94) 15, Lecomte 14 and 10 rebounds and El Mahsini 13
