Apoel with a fantastic Dante Stiggers (188-PG-82, college: S.Mississippi) and a very good Porter Troupe (196-G-83, college: Portland) and Morrison succeeded a solid win over Petrolina AEK Larnakas and ties the series to 1-1. The final score of the game was 81-72.
The game was a derby from the beginning with the visiting site of Coach Papadopoulos, being more aggressive and leading the score in the first five minutes with 8-10 but with both teams being quite average in their offenses. The second half of the first period belonged to the home team outscored the visitors with 15-8 and took the lead at the end with 23-18.
Even though at the beginning of the second period the home team took a lead of +8, 34-23 with Dante Stiggers scoring 7 consecutive points, 6.53' before the end of the first half, AEK reacted and with Tutt and Fisher cut the deficit to 36-30 initially and by the end the deficit went down to two points since with Cvetinovic goal-foul the first half ended with 43-41. It is worth mentioned the not so good performance of Mihalis Kakiouzis (206-F-76, agency: Interperformances) and Fisher, on behalf of the visitors.

The third period started exactly as the first period with AEK not only balancing the game but taking the lead with Fisher's three pointer to 43-47, 8.26' before the end of the third period. The home team reacted and with Morrison being the leader at the particular part of the game with a solid 9-0, reshaped the score to 52-47 with AEK remain pointless for nearly 5 minutes!!! Nesovic succeeded in a three pointer to cut the deficit once more to the basket but Porter Troupe was on fire and with 5 personal points increased the deficit for his team to + 6, 57-51 with 3 minutes to go. The period ended with 59-55 after Cvedinovic and Panteli three points in total.

The fourth and final period was the period where the home court "talked" Apoel' players were more passionate and even though AEK reacted as in nearly all the periods at the beginning with personal points by Mihalis Kakiouzis and Tutt, brought AEK to 59-61 with a solid 0-6 in the first two minutes, from then and on the game was thrilling with the two teams moving basket to basket. With the score being in the absolute balance 65-65, 4.47' before the end, the referees saw and called an unsportsmanlike foul against Fisher giving the chance to the home team to gain four points as the missing shot by Morrison was corrected by the three pointer by Dante Stiggers and 4.34' the result became 69-65 but the momentum was already taking parts, and the home team had it! So, Panteli and Fisher missed the chance to decrease the deficit since they both did turnovers, but Porter Troupe was not, and with another basket on the fast break and a dunk gave a deficit of +7 to his team and increase the momentum for Apoel with 3. 32' to go. AEK continued the presents for Apoel and with another turnover, Dante Stiggers took the chance to actually finish the game since the psychology was far and away from AEK and the final score of 81-72 came exactly with the same way as the 78-70 of the first game between the two teams.

Top scorers:

Apoel: Dante Stiggers 20, Porter Troupe 17, Morrison 16, Chan 10 and Kremen 0 points and 12 rebounds

AEK: Mihalis Kakiouzis 16 and 7 rebounds, Subotic and Panteli 10 points per head.

Some analysis in numbers for the two teams:

Apoel had only 18% in the three pointers while AEK had 44%. In the assists, the difference was huge for the two teams since Apoel had 17 assists while AEK had only 11. In the rebounding area, Apoel dashed down 41 rebounds against the 34 by AEK's players. Last but not least in the area of the turnovers, Apoel suffered with 13 turnovers while AEK had much more since the players of Coach Papadopoulos ended the game with 23 turnovers and Tutt with Panteli lead their team with 4 per player.

Keravnos is the champion after many attempts... - 12 days ago
Ten years after the last championship, Keravnos Strovolou finally and after a great 'fight' against the last season's champions (and top favourite team according to available budget) AEK Larnakas, won the final series with 3-1 and won totally fair the sixth championship trophy with the last one being back in 2008. After quite many times being very close to the trophy but losing it at the very last minute, Keravnos management decided to trust in the head coaching position (after many-many...   [read more]

Importance of Statistics - 13 days ago
Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. Even though it cannot and should not constitute an objective measurement of the performance of a player, statistics provide tools for prediction and forecasting using data and statistical models. Statistics is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines, including natural and social sciences, government, and business but also in basketball. Statistical consultants are available to pro...   [read more]
