Bobby Maze
Both the games in the Semi-Finals are at this stage in the 2-1 record with Petrolina AEK and Keravnos Strovolou having the upper hand since they lead their opponents and they simply want just one victory tp qualify in the finals. Especially for AEK Larnakas things seems to be much easier since the fourth game in the row will take place tomorrow in their home court Kition and it will be obviously very difficult for Etha to succeed a road win in Larnaka, but the hopes are still there for the champions. On the other pair, the home team of Keravnos is showing some different signs under the coaching of the Greek Head Coach Skourtopoulos, and the comeback for the Strovolos team could be total if they succeed a second victory in the home court of Apeol, Lefkotheo. Tonight the team of Keravnos Strovolou succeeded its second victory over Coach Konstantinidis, Apoel after an easy 87-74 with Bobby Bobby Maze (191-PG-86, college: Tennessee) doing it all!!

About the games now with a bit more analysis:

Michelin Etha Engomis - Petrolina AEK Larnakas 74-67
The champions had an incredible first period where they outcome their opponents with 23-8!! That was their best period in the series with Williams and Maras being in a great shape and especially the Serb who dominated in both edges. On the other hand, AEK traveled in Nicosia as if everything ended in the second game... and only Fisher tried to defend his team as he was the scorer of the 6 of 8 points for his team....

The second period though was totally different for the two teams, as AEK reminded us why is at this stage on the specific position, with Dion Dixon (190-G-89, college: Cincinnati) and Subotic being more aggressive than their team-mates while Kakiouzis was not as productive as the previous games. AEK outscored the home team with 12-23 and cut the deficit at the end of the first half to 35-29.

The third period we had a balance game with Dejan Cup (202-PF-83) on the one hand and Dion Dixon on the other leading their teams in a totally balanced game which finally ended to the 16-16 with the home team keeping the +6 deficit which was not giving any real safety to the home team.

The fourth and final period found Fisher with his 14th point to cut the deficit to 53-49 but then and for two minutes the two teams remain pointless, before Downey succeeds the one of two free throws to reshape the score to 54-49 and for another nearly 2 minutes the game remain once more pointless before one free throw was successful by Poole (55-49) . Dejan Cup and Poole were the players to give a +11 to Etha (62-51) with 3.10 to the end but the game was already lost for AEK and now the series goes bak to Kition with Etha playing once more a do or die game in Larnaka.

Top scorers:
Etha: Dejan Cup 29 points and 9 rebounds, Williams 13 and Poole 11
AEK: Dion Dixon 19, Fisher 14 and Kakiouzis 10

Keravnos Strovolou - CytaVision Apoel 87-74

No problem for Keravnos of Skourthopoulos even though without its top scorer Tony Crocker who missed all the play-offs (until now) but with Bobby Maze playing for both players, the home team begun the game more aggressively and by the end of the first period the scorer was already in a double figures (26-13) with Bobby Maze scoring 9 points and the excellent Demertzis scoring 5 points but sharing 3 assists too. On the other hand, Coach Konstantinidis key players like Davis were ina bad shape and were not able to compete their opponents who seem to be more targeted and much more passionate than Apoel players.

the second period the game was more balanced since Apoel found some scoring by Ales Chan (216-C-80, agency: Edge Sports, college: Seton Hill) the ex player of Keravnos was the only solid thread for Keravnos while the Strovolos team had Pilavas in a good performance and Andre Owens (193-G-80, college: Houston) in a very mature role. The first half ended with 46-31 and allready the momentum was totally towards the home team.

The third period continued in the same paste, with Keravnos and Bobby Maze continuing their offensive crescent to increase the deficit to +20 points with Apoel not being able to do anything against Bobby Maze and his team-mates, with Keravnos getting some serious points from Trisokkas and Andre Owens. The end of the period found Keravnos dominating in all edges and Apoel simply waiting the next game to come. The score was 66-46 and Bobby Maze already scored 24 points.!

The fourth period was a typical case, with Coach Skourthopoulos giving time to all his players with the 14 years old Yiannaras (the son of the ex head coach) even receiving at the end one minute in the court while Theocharidis also received nearly four minutes in the court.

Top scorers:
Keravnos: Bobby Maze 28 points and 4 assists, Andre Owens 16, Demertzis 11 and Trisokas 12

Apoel: Ales Chan 17, Davis 11 and Wells 16

AEK Larnakas beat Keravnos Strovolou on the opening day - 1 day ago
The first derby of the season went to AEK Larnakas who showed (after the super cup triumph) who's going to be the boss this season in the Cyprus league. The final score 84-75 is totally fair as AEK Larnakas had a much better rotation that their opponents, since Coach Leivadiotis for another game this season preferred to go on a very short rotation with just seven players (Anthony King was absent) while the Cyprus Coach used Barker for 38!! Minutes, Parks for 32 and from then and on Abukar...   [read more]
