Coach Skourtopoulos couldn't do anything to help Keravnos Strovolou and for another season one of the most losers (in psychology) teams of the Cyprus league, Keravnos Strovolou is remaining out of the competition earlier than expected..
Between the total blinds the one eyed prevails!! And that is the characteristic of the tonight's semi-finals since both teams were awful but Apoel was better than the team of Keravnos Strovolou which had no passion or guts to win this crucial game and qualifies in the finals. The poor score of 54-63 is proving the reality of this game..
During the first half, the two teams enter the court in a balanced mode even though we had a slow tempo and the two teams were performing below average, the 15-14 of the first period is also provign the level of the basketball at these semi-finals of the Cyprus league.
The second period was the most important of the game since Apoel showed that was not kidding and after the first couple of minutes took the lead with Stiggers 17-18, 7.26' before the end of the first half, and never lost it. The two teams remain pointless for more than 3 minutes (between 4.39' to 1.04' the two teams score was 2-3!!) finally and just a minutes before the end Stokes turnover and Giannis Demertzis (194-PG-83) foul gave the chance to Isaac Wells (203-F-85, college: Arkansas St.) with give a solid lead for his team to 28-35 which was the score to close the first half. Keravnos in its home court was able to score 35 points in 20 minutes with Skourtopoulos key players remaining at shallow waters (Bobby Maze (191-PG-86, college: Tennessee) 6pts, Zvonko Buljan (206-F-87, college: TCU) 4pts) On the other hand, Apoel found some solid scoring by Kremen (7pts), Isaac Wells (11 pts) and Chan (7pts)

The third period begun with 4 unanswered points by Vaughn (his first points in the game) to close the gap to 32-35 and then Bobby Maze and Zvonko Buljan brought the home team back to the leading role with 36-35 since Apoel's first points came only at the 6.27' before the end of the period by Isaac Wells. The game became a derby for the next three minutes since the two teams were changing baskets and scoring was between 0-2 points. 4.08' before the end of the period the score was 41-41, but Keravnos simply stop scoring with Coach Skourtopoulos being quite slow in the bench, that being said, Apoel scored six points and 1.12' before the end of the period, Apoel was leading 41-47. Keravnos was able to score just one basket with Zvonko Buljan at the end to cut the deficit to 43-47. It was obvious that Apoel wanted the victory more than Keravnos and proved in the last period.

The 4th period begun with Kremen's goal-foul to increase the deficit to +7 for his team, the foul made by Stokes who was unbelievably unstable in such a serious for his team, game. With the score being 43-50, Keravnos cut the deficit with Zvonko Buljan to 45-50 but then the Croat missed a couple of baskets and together with a turnover (Coach Skourtopoulos expected everything from the Croat forward since his team-mates were in a very low morale) gave the chance to Apoel to increase the deficit more to 47-54, with 4.30' to go, after Porter Troupe (196-G-83, college: Portland)'s two points from the charity line. Owens and Pilavas missed their shots (like most of them in the game), but Chan and Mokongo missed their shots too, so one minute after, Vaughn scored both his free throws to cut the deficit a bit, to 49-54, but the time was passing by for Keravnos and the Strovolos team was not reacting properly. Even though Bobby Maze scored both his free throws to cut the deficit even more to 51-54 and give some excitement to the game, Stokes traveling and missed three pointer which were the "turning point" of the game gave a different psychology to Apoel and changed the momentum in total. The Americans of Keravnos missed the nest three offenses and Apoel with Porter Troupe increased the deficit to 51-58 with less than a minute to go. Keravnos surrender and the rest is simply history since Stokes continue his crescent of missing three pointers to simply give the chance to Apoel to increase the deficit mostly from the charity line.. The final 54-63 is totally fair!

Keravnos could be described as a case study to avoid since all these years even though (mostly) has much better rosters than its opponents can't keep up until the end, no matter who's the head coach is, since we have seen the same old story at least with four different head Coaches and of course 10 different rosters since the Strovolos team is not keeping any player from the previous season no matter what.....

Top scorers:
Keravnos: Zvonko Buljan 12 points with 28.6% total stats, Bobby Maze 15
Apoel: Porter Troupe 15, Isaac Wells 14, Kremen 10 and Mike Morrison (205-F-89, college: George Mason) 10 and 11 rebounds.

Some differences for the two teams:

Apoel dashed down 40 rebounds while Keravnos 35. Keravnos scored two three pointers out of 21 with a percentage of 9%!!! while Apoel scored 3 three pointers with a 20% accuracy. Finally, Apoel had 12 assists against 9 for Keravnos...

Last but not least, Keravnos lost Tony Crocker and Aleksandar Damjanovic during the semi-finals, but obviously the addition of Stokes was not the best feasible one for the Strovolos team.
