Jan Slowiak
The most successful head coach in the past decade of BK JIP Pardubice history has been fired. Jan Slowiak , after a 1-5 start to A1 group play has been relieved of his duties, just two weeks before the start of the playoffs. According to team spokesperson Martin Marek, the players had stopped responding to Slowiaks direction and in addition to the weak performance in group play, the club felt it was necessary to make a change. While acknowledging that the poor team play lies not solely at the feet of Slowiak, the club felt that a new voice would definitely change the attitude and performance heading into the final weeks of the season. The interim head coach will be current assistant Dusan Bohunicky , who will make his NBL head coaching debut on Sundays nationally televised contest versus Prostejov.
Dusan Bohunicky was a longtime player for BK Kondori Liberec, retiring after the 2007-08 season and was in his first season as assistant coach with Pardubice.
During Jan Slowiak s tenure as head coach Pardubice enjoyed its most successful period in recent history. In his three prior seasons as coach, the club finished 4th, 3rd and 4th in league standings while reaching the semi-finals of the playoffs in 2010 and 2011. Last season, the club made its debut on the European stage, earning a place in the EuroChallenge Top 16 before finishing 1-5, and 4th place in Group K. His final successes as head coach were this season, leading Pardubice to the Czech Cup Finals as well as being named head coach of the Czech Team in the All-Star game.
Pardubice is currently 18-12 on the season, and resides in 3rd position in Group A1 with 48 points.
