Eurobasket had the pleasure of chatting with junior national team player Egert Haller (188-G-95) to briefly talk about his experience playing in the 2012 euro espoirs in France. Egert played with the P-Atlex/Evolution All Stars that finished 3rd place in the competition. With a roster of international players, mostly Belgian, he and fellow Estonian NT member Igor Arendash had the experience of a lifetime.

EU: Eku, how did you find the level of the tournament?
EH:The level of the tournament in general was pretty good, though the way they play there differs hardly from the playing style in the Baltic i still think it was a great experience for me and hepled me to get an overview of my skills and compare myself to the other players from all around the Europe.

EU: How would you rank the level of players that were here? Do you think that tournaments like this help youth players to improve and get better?
EH:In my opinion there was a lot of great young ballers who have great skills and are going to be big stars in the future but still have to work and get better in team basketball. The game over there was mostly based on 1 on 1 playing but as i already said there was a lot of great athletes who are able to represent their countries national team one day.

EU: How did you feel participating in the 3 point contest? You advanced to the final round?
EH:It was something new for me, i hadn't participated in a 3 point contest before but it felt good and was a great experience for me.In the first round every player had 5 shots, as i failed and made only 2 shots out of 5 i didn't get to the final round but i still have to be happy that i was chosen to attend the 3 point contest.

EU: How important do you think it was for you to be a part of this tournament in its 28th year?
EH:I think that for me it was very important so that i can compare my skills to other young ballers from all around Europe and see what i still need to work on.

EU: It has been rumored that you are to attend high school in the United States? How did that come about?
EH:Yes, i have to admit that one of the high schools in the States is intrested in me, but nothing is sure before the contract is signed and im already there. But im looking forward to talking to the coaches from the high school and i hope that we can make things move.Coach Ozell Wells hepled me with this thing, he contacted with the school and keeps in touch with the coaches over there.

IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE AND GREAT TO HEAR OF YOUTH PLAYERS HAVING A TRULY INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE BY VIRTUE OF THE GAME OF BASKETBALL. WE AT EUROBASKET WISH EGERT HALLER THE VERY BEST IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS, AND WE LOOK TO HEAR GREAT THINGS FROM HIM IN THE FUTURE. BEST WISHES EGERT.
