Viive Kai Rebane's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Estonians playing currently abroad - Mar 27, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Estonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Viive Kai Rebane (182-89, college: Binghamton, currently plays in Bulgaria). She led Neftochimic to a victory against the closely-ranked Levski (12-12) 76-62 in the Bulgarian NBL in Wednesday night's game. Rebane had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 11 rebounds in 35 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her third season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Neftochimic 2010 Burgas (21-2) is placed first in the NBL. Rebane's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Rebane has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.1apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 52.0% and FT: 61.1% in the 10 games she played so far. Ex-Audentes Tallinn player is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

Kadri-Ann Lass

   #2. Second place goes to U18 international forward Kadri-Ann Lass (175-96, currently plays in Latvia). She contributed to a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74 in the Latvian LSBL last Monday. Lass scored 26 points (!!!), grabbed 5 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 3 shots. Eclex Tallinn (17-5) is placed third in the LSBL. The Regular Season already ended. This season Lass has relatively solid stats: 11.7ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.1apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 52.0% and FT: 61.1%. She is in the roster of the Estonian U18 national team.

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Merike Anderson (180-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria). Anderson helped Dunav 8806 win their game against the closely-ranked Haskovo 2012 (10-13) crushing them 91-65 in the Bulgarian NBL on Saturday night. She scored 12 points and added 3 passes in 25 minutes. Dunav 8806 Ruse (18-5) is placed second in the NBL. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Anderson is currently fourth on the list of best passers with 3.7apg. This year her other stats are: 13.8ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 55.7%(98-176), 3FGP: 23.6% and FT: 69.7% in the 22 games. Anderson is also a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Anastassia Ptitsona (168-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Ptitsona led Eclex Tallinn to a victory over the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74. She was MVP of the game. Ptitsona scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists. It's Ptitsona's fifth season with the team. Her overall stats this year are: 7.6ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.0apg and 2.2spg. Ptitsona used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #5. International power forward Annika Koster (185-92, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Anastassia Ptitsona (above) in the other team. Koster was the major contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74. She scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line) in 127 minutes. Koster belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #7) and also on the list of most steals (third place). She has very reliable stats this year: 13.7ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.4apg and 2.8spg in the 18 games. Koster plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #6. Forward Kerttu Jallai (180-90, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help KK Tallinna Ulikool (11-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance KK Tallinna Ulikool was crushed 91-66 on the road by the leading Cesis. Jallai recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added 3 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. The Regular Season already ended. Jallai belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #4) and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Jallai averages: 19.3ppg, 10.0rpg, 3.3apg, 1.7bpg and 1.9spg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Estonian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international guard Heila Rosenfeldt (173-83, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Annika Koster (above) in the other team. Rosenfeldt helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74. She scored 10 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 4 balls in 26 minutes. It's Rosenfeldt's first season with the team. Rosenfeldt is currently fourth on the list of best passers with 3.7apg. She also averaged so far 10.4ppg, 4.8rpg and 2.2spg in the 20 games. Rosenfeldt used to play for the Estonian national team two years ago.

   #8. Power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Heila Rosenfeldt (above) in the other team. Mesila-Kaarmann helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74. She scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Mesila-Kaarmann has reliable stats this season: 15.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.4bpg. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #10. Guard Mirjam Nikolai (177-86, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Trine Kasemagi (above) in the other team. Nikolai helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74. She scored 12 points. This season Nikolai has very high stats. She averages: 15.2ppg, 4.9rpg, 2.5apg and 2.0spg. Nikolai is an international player who is currently on the senior Estonian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international guard Pirgit Puu (168-88, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kerttu Jallai and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Puu, who plays in the Latvian LSBL was not able to help KK Tallinna Ulikool (11-11) in their last game. Despite her good performance KK Tallinna Ulikool was crushed 91-66 on the opponent's court by the leading Cesis. Puu recorded 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 40 minutes. Puu is ranked second on the list of the top scorers in the league with 19.3ppg. This year she also averages: 4.2rpg, 3.2apg and 2.3spg in the 18 games. Puu used to play for the Estonian national team two years ago.

   #12. U18 international forward Jane Svilberg (179-95, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Mirjam Nikolai (above) in the other team. Svilberg helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis 78-74. She scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Svilberg's overall stats this season are:, 4.2rpg, 3.2apg and 2.3spg. She is also in the roster of the Estonian U18 national team.

   #13. Former U20 international point guard Janeli Lilleallik (168-94, currently plays in Latvia) was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite in their game against Latvijas Universitate in the Latvian LSBL, despite her very good performance in Saturday night's game. Lilleallik was the top scorer with 21 points. She also added 3 assists in 37 minutes. But her team was edged 66-65. This year Lilleallik's overall stats are: 9.1ppg, 2.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg in the 20 games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team two years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international guard Marit Maaring (178-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Jane Svilberg (above) in the other team. Maaring helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis 78-74. She scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Maaring's total stats this season are: 8.1ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.7apg and 2.3spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #15. Former U20 international point guard Birgit Piibur (162-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri-Ann Lass. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Marit Maaring (above) in the other team. Piibur managed to help Eclex Tallinn in a victory against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis 78-74. She scored only 4 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 23 minutes. This year Piibur's total stats are: 8.1ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.7apg and 2.3spg in the 22 games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Estonian passport but never been selected to any of Estonian national teams:

   #1. Kadri Uigra (183-F-97, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-21) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Uigra's good performance the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was edged 66-65 on the road by the much higher-ranked Latvijas Universitate (#5). She was the second best scorer with 12 points. Uigra also added 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Uigra has averaged so far 7.2ppg and 7.0rpg.

   #2. Experienced Mariel Gregor (174-PG-80, currently plays in Latvia) managed to help Eclex Tallinn in a victory against the seventh-ranked Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (9-12) 78-74 in the Latvian LSBL on Monday night. She scored only 4 points in 9 minutes on the court. Eclex Tallinn (17-5) is placed third in the LSBL. The Regular Season already ended. Gregor has averaged so far 4.6ppg, 1.9rpg and 2.0apg in the 11 games she played so far.

   #3. Kaiti Vasiljeva (177-G-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri Uigra and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Vasiljeva was not able to help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-21) in their game against Latvijas Universitate (14-17). She recorded 9 points, 5 assists and 5 steals in 38 minutes. But the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was edged 66-65 in Riga by the much higher-ranked (#5) Latvijas Universitate. Vasiljeva is ranked fifth on the list of the most steals in the league with 2.6spg. This year she also averages: 9.4ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.9apg in the 20 games.

   #4. Sade Ereli (175-G-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kadri Uigra. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Ereli was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-21) in their game against Cesis (22-0). She recorded 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 125-52 on the opponent's court by the leading Cesis. Ereli has averaged so far 4.9ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.1spg.

FCR Media/Rapla KK claimed NKML title in Estonia. They beat Tallinna Ulikool 3-1 in the Final series clinching the 92-80 win last night. Pirgit Puu (168-G-88) top-scored for the winners with 30 points and Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-C/F-87) notched 22. Francis Donders followed them with 15 points in a win. Samantha Mackay (173-G-91, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) replied with 24 points in the losing effort, whilst Rosemary Rits(180-F-92) nailed 16.   [read more]

TLU (University of Tallinn) led the game for whole 40 minutes and won the Game 2 of Estonian Championship finals against Rapla 77:64 (37:26) to even the series to 1:1. Viive Kai Rebane (183-F-89, college: Binghamton) led the winners with a great double-double - 25+14 rbs. Trine Kasemagi (190-C-95) added 18 + 12 rbs and Mirjam Nikolai(178-G-86) 16 + 5 ast.
