Katharina Fikiel gets MVP of the Week award for Eurocup - Nov 2, 2012

Polish-German Katharina Fikiel (193-F/C-87) put on an amazing game in the last round for Wasserburg and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 25-year old power forward had the game-high 26 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Wasserburg in her team's victory, helping them to beat Sint Katelijne (#4, 0-2) 88-77. Wasserburg is placed at 3rd position in Eurocup group D. They need more victories to improve their 1-1 record. In the team's last game Fikiel had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. She turned to be Wasserburg's top player in her first season with the team.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 33-year old point guard Edwige Lawson-Wade (168-PG-79) of league's best team Lattes Montp.. Lawson-Wade impressed basketball fans with 32 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course Lattes Montp. cruised to a 87-76 overtime win over Chevakata (1-1). Her team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Lawson-Wade is well-known by Lattes Montp. fans and she already established her position as one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was American Kristina Santiago (185-F-89, agency: LBM Management) of Dunav 8806. Santiago scored 24 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Santiago's great performance Dunav 8806 lost 80-84 to #2 ranked Botas. But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Dunav 8806 can only dream about fighting for top spots in group F. Too bad for Santiago she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. The season just started for Santiago as she played only first game. But it already looks like she can be team's leader.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. Kayseri re-upped Asjha Jones (191-F/C-80, college: Connecticut), Nuria Martinez (175-PG-84) and Nicky Anosike (190-F/C-86, college: Tennessee) for 2013/2014 season. The top players will enter another season with the Turkish club. Last year Kayseri tabbed three players and became a good competitor to another titans in the country.

In 2011 played for Washington Mystics (WNBA, starting five) and showed 6.9ppg, 7.2rpg, 1.4apg, 1.4spg, FGP: 34.5%, FT: 74.4%. The season 2011-2012 started for Beijing Great Wall (China-WCBA, starting five) and in 32 games had 15.3ppg, 9.1rpg, 2.0apg, Steals-2 (2.4spg), Blocks-5 (1.5bpg), FGP: 58.0%, FT: 82.3%. In Mar.'12 signed at A.S. Ramat Hasharon Electra (Israel-D1) and averaged 9.0 points per game. Asjha Jones started the season 2011-2012 for Rivas Ecopolis (Spain-LFB, starting five). In Spanish League the American Forward averaged 14.5ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.2apg, FGP: 44.3%, FT: 81.4%. In Euroleague she became the fourth top-scorer with 17.9ppg, 9.0rpg, 1.0spg, FGP: 51.4%, FT: 73.1%. Finally Nuria Martinez arrived from Liomatic Umbertide. In 2012-2013 for Pankup Ted Kayseri Kolejspor (Turkey-TKBL) Nuria Martinez averaged 7.2ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.3apg, 1.2spg, FGP: 49.2%, FT: 56.5% in EuroCup. In Turkish League her stats read 6.7 points per game.

Kayseri put all possible pressure on the Russian team in the return leg of the title series but stepped just a whisker away from the triumph. Kristi Toliver (170-PG-87, college: Maryland) and Ilona Korstin (183-SG-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) came up with decisive five points late in regulation as Dynamo Moscow got within the necessary distance from the hosts. Martinez had a chance to bring the success to the home team but missed a layup as Dynamo celebrated a historic win at the end. Kristi Toliver finished with 23 points to pace the visitors. Dynamo Moscow opened the game confidently. They stayed calm throughout the first ten minutes stealing a 20:19 lead at the first break. But Kayseri mounted the pressure in the second quarter. The Turkish team overcame a six-point deficit and Martinez made it 41:37 for the hosts at halftime. Asjha Jones and Zoi Dimitrakou (188-F-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas) gave the home team a 48:41 lead midway through the third quarter. Soon Maltsi and Demirok opened a 14-point advantage for Kayseri 61:47. Nadezhda Grishaeva capped the third quarter with four points in a row to drag Dynamo within 10. LaToya Sanders (191-PF-86, college: N.Carolina) made it 67:58 for the hosts midway through the fourth stanza but Nadezhda Grishaeva came to rescue once again scoring quick four points and cutting the deficit. Ilona Korstine narrowed the gap at 4-point mark with a three-pointer but Zoi Dimitrakou and Asjha Jones answered with back-to-back baskets as Kayseri raced to a 74:65 lead with 36 seconds remaining. But Dynamo refused to give as Kristi Toliver and Ilona Korstin came up with decisive points and brought Dynamo to the trophy! Nadezhda Grishaeva provided 14 points, while Crystal Langhorne chipped in 12 points for the winning side. LaToya Sanders answered with 19 points for Kayseri. Zoi Dimitrakou netted 17 points for the hosts.
