Spartak SP - Budivelnyk 83-72
Spartak Saint Petersburg clinched an 11-point victory against Budivelnyk in the opening leg of the EuroCup quarterfinal series. They will now have to defend it in one weeks time in the Ukrainian capital to reach the semis. Zack Wright (195-G-85, college: Central Mo.) knocked down 18 points and issued 7 assists to lead the winners. Spartak got to the aggressive start. They piled up a 23:19 lead ten minutes into the game. The Russian team maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. They piled up a 43:36 halftime advantage. Budivelnyk used a 10:2 run midway through the third quarter to surge ahead 54:53. Spartak regained the lead to enter the fourth stanza up by three points 63:60. Zack Wright opened a double-digit lead for Spartak midway through the fourth quarter 75:65. Janis Strelnieks and Josh Carter drained back-to-back triples to give Spartak an 83:70 lead with just one second remaining. However Leo Lyons (206-F-87, agency: Edge Sports, college: Missouri) managed to answer with a layup to finalize the score. Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-C-84) delivered 17 points, while Josh Carter produced 15 points for the winning team. Leo Lyons answered with 21 points and 7 rebounds for Budivelnyk. Artur Drozdov had 16 points in the loss.

Buducnost - Lokomotiv 54-72
Lokomotiv Kuban made a huge step towards EuroCup semifinals. They defeated Buducnost in Podgorica to head to the return leg in Krasnodar with a comfortable cushion. Derrick Brown (203-F-87, college: Xavier) posted 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Russian team. Buducnost looked confident in the opening stanza. The hosts built a 15:8 lead at the first break. But Lokomotiv took over in the next period. The visitors straighten defensively and held Buducnost to 13 points in the second frame. Lokomotiv narrowed the gap at 3-point mark 25:28. The third quarter became decisive in this one. Lokomotiv turned it into a disaster for the home side. The visitors went on a 26:8 rally to secure a 51:36 lead into the fourth frame. Lokomotiv kept stunned the hosts at distance throughout the final period clinching a key victory at the end. Nick Calathes (198-PG-89, college: Florida) accounted for 15 points, while Andrey Zubkov and Mantas Kalnietis added 10 points each in the win. Cedomir Vitkovac (201-F-82, agency: Beo Basket) answered with 14 points for Buducnost. Dusko Bunic had 9 points in the losing effort.

Ratiopharm - Gescrap BB 85-81
Ratiopharm Ulm opened the EuroCup quarterfinal series versus Bilbao with victory. The German team gained a 4-point advantage prior to the return leg in Spain next week. John Bryant (208-C-87, college: Santa Clara) was unstoppable for Ulm with 30 points and 7 rebounds. Bilbao silenced a sell-out crowd of 5500 fans in Ulm in the starting quarter. The Spaniards went on a 30:18 rally to tip off the game. But Ulm reacted with balanced and determined effort in the second quarter. The hosts picked up the defensive aggressiveness to narrow the gap at 3-point mark at halftime 42:45. Ratiopharm Ulm continued to dominate defensively in the third term. It paid off the home side pulled ahead for a 60:58 lead at the final intermission. The margin grew at 12-point mark midway through the fourth frame. However Lamont Hamilton and Axel Hervelle pulled Bilbao within five and then Zisis hit a free throw to finalize the score. Allan Ray (188-G-84, college: Villanova) notched 13 points, while Per Guenther and Keaton Nankivil had 10 points each for the winners. Kostas Vasiliadis (200-G/F-84, agency: FCM) answered with 21 points for Bilbao. Lamont Hamilton, Axel Hervelle and Alex Mumbru chipped in 13 points each in the loss.

Valencia - Unics 80-70
Valencia heading to Kazan having built a 10-point buffer after the opening round of EuroCup Quarterfinal series. Bojan Dubljevic (205-PF-91, agency: Beo Basket) came up with 19 points to lead the hosts to the victory. The teams stayed close throughout the opening frame. Valencia eked out a 21:20 lead ten minutes into the encounter. The hosts stepped on the gas in the second frame. Valencia dropped 24 points and cleared off to a 45:35 distance at halftime. The margin grew at 13-point mark midway through the third quarter. However Unics went on a 10:0 run to narrow the deficit. Valencia entered the fourth quarter up by six points 64:58. Pau Ribas, Bojan Dubljevic and Justin Doellman (206-F-85, college: Xavier) helped Valencia restore a 12-point lead with under four minutes remaining. Terrell Lyday (191-G-79, college: BYU) dragged the visitors within 8 points 70:78 with just over a minute remaining. However Justin Doellman dunked for the final result of the game 80:70. Justin Doellman accounted for 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, while Stefan Markovic added 10 points for the winners. Terrell Lyday answered with 28 points for Unics. Mire Chatman chipped in 13 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the loss.

Ratiopharm inks Toure Murry, ex Yesilgiresun - 1 hour ago
Ratiopharm Ulm (BBL) agreed terms with 28-year old American guard Toure Murry (196-91kg-89, college: Wichita State). He played last season at Yesilgiresun in Turkish BSL league, but left the team in Feb.'17. In 6 games he had 8.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.0apg and 1.2spg. In 2012 Murry was drafted by Austin Toros (D-League) as #1 pick overall. He attended Wichita State and it will be his sixth season in pro basketball. Panevezys Lietkabelis (LKL) agreed terms with 28-year old Lithuanian international shooting guard Adas Juskevicius (194-89kg-89). He played last season at Tecnyconta Zaragoza in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 25 games he had 6.4ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.4apg. The previous (15-16) season Juskevicius played at Lietuvos rytas where in 47 LKL games he recorded 8.7ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.7apg.
