Scotland - Moldova 81-19
Scotland had no mercy for Moldova in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Ohrid. They celebrated huge 81-19 win for 2-1 record in Group A. That is enough for the second place in this pool and Scotland advanced to the Semifinals, where they will meet host FYROM. Moldova is the last ranked team of this group with 0-3 and they will continue in classification games from 5-8 place. Their first rival will be Wales. Deanne Hayward (170-G-91) had 24 points and 5 assists for the winners and Mairi Buchan (188-C/F-90) added 20 points, plus 9 boards. Siobhan Moore (185-C-87, college: Bridgeport) posted 14 pts. In defeat, Galina Cuznetov (193-C-89) had 4 points and 7 rebounds. Scotland kept Moldova scoreless for the entire Q3. Quarters: 21-8, 22-5, 17-0, 21-6.

Malta - Azerbaijan 80-70
Malta is the winner of Preliminary Group A in Ohrid. They handed 80-70 loss to Azerbaijan to end this phase with perfect 3-0 record. Of course, Malta advanced to the Semifinals, where their rival will be Austria. Azerbaijan ended as third ranked team in this group with 1-2 record and will continue in classification games from 5-8 place. Their first rival is Gibraltar. Rebecca Thoresen (178-F/G-78) had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Ashleigh Vella (188-F/C-90) also had amazing game 17 pts, 14 rebs and 6 assists, while Beverly Zammit (178-SG-87) helped with 12 points. Azerbaijan got 21 points and 5 boards from Tatyana Deniskina (173-SG-85). Dina Ulyanova (185-SF-89) followed with 17 pts and 14 rebs, and Anastasiya Biryuchkova (170-G-90) scored 13 points. Malta was 17-points up at the halftime and jumped to plus 20 with ten minutes to go. Azerbaijan drastically improved in the last quarter, but it was too late for them.

Group B
FYR Macedonia - Wales 106-48
As expected, FYROM was too strong for Wales 106-48 in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Ohrid. It means that the host of EuroBasket Division C won the first place in Group B with perfect 3-0 record. Their rival in the Semifinals will be Scotland. At the other side, Wales finished as No.3 in this pool and failed to reach the next stage. They will continue in Classifications games from 5-8 place. Their first rival will be Moldova. FYROM made 21-point lead already in the first quarter and jumped to plus 39 at the HT. All after that was just the formality. Elena Radenkovic (186-C/F-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza) had 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners, while Slavica Dimovska (175-G-85) was their second scorer with 14 pts. Ema Reskoska (192-C-90) had double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. In Wales, Emma Gough (177-G-86) was better than the others with 9 points and Rebecca Short (181-C-88) had one less. Competition continues on Saturday.

Austria - Gibraltar 80-29
Austria advanced to the Semifinals of EuroBasket Division C in Ohrid. They had no mercy for Gibraltar 80-29 in the last day of the Preliminary Round. Thanks to this win Austria ended as the second ranked team in Group B with 2-1 record and will meet Malta in the Semifinals. At the other side, Gibraltar closes the standings in this pool with 0-3. They will continue in classifications games from 5-8 place and their first rival will be Azerbaijan. Austria dominated in all basketball elements and Gibraltar simply was no able to resist. Quarters: 18-7, 19-3, 17-11, 26-8. Sophia Plank (178-G/F-83) led the scorers in Austria with 17 points and Julia Horti (164-G-89) delivered 10 pts. Their third scorer was Margit Forcher (177-G-76) with 9 points. In Gibraltar, Zainya Reyes (173-SG-92) scored 10 points and Kaira Sene (174-SF-82) had 6 pts, plus 5 rebs.

Kiril Bolshakov (agency: Octagon Europe ) takes over Ukrainian National Team. The experienced 55-year old Ukrainian coach Kiril Bolshakov (agency: Octagon Europe ) returns from Italy where he coached Acqua Vitasnella Cantu (Italy-Serie A). Bolshakov replaced Holopov in the team. Earlier Kiril coached at Krasny Oktyabr, Dnipro and Zaporizhya. Bolshakov was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Ukrainian Superleague Coach of the Year back in 2010.   [read more]
