Marco
Belinelli
Vassilis Spanoulis (193-G-82, agency: Beo Basket) absence was more than obvious and the Italians with a great percentage from the arc (42.3%) beat the Hellenic NT and are heading all the way to the top seat of the Group as nothing can stop them now. On the other hand, Greece must win the Finnish tomorrow in order to "lock" the second place int he Group D of one of the most unpredictable eurobasket tournaments ever. The final score was 72-81 (16-16, 22-20, 18-27 and 16-18)

Marco Belinelli (196-G-86) and Alessandro Gentile (198-G/F-92) were amazing, especially the young talented Italian proved to be among the key players in the overall game for Coach Simone Pianigiani. For the Greek team the amazing Nikolaos Zisis (197-G-83) gave his best shot but he was all alone at the end when the ball was too heavy and after the 70-70, the Hellenic NT couldn't score even though the momentum changed totally and the lack of an experienced second point guard was more than obvious for Coach Trincieri's team, the false balls of Bramos and Sloukas gave the chance to the Italians to get a deficit of +6 and then to get the +9 at the end when the Greeks stopped playing..

It is wort mentioned that the game was a derby from the begginign to he end with the Hellenic team being better in the first half and the Italians being better in the second..
Marco Belinelli's 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals are giving him the title of the man of the match followed by the very good and with amazingly mature game Alessandro Gentile who ended the game with 16 points in 23 minutes in the court. On the other hand, the Hellenic team had Nikolaos Zisis with 16 points and 4 assists (with the Russians he shared 11!) followed by Perperoglou who scored 12 all from the line of the arc.

Coach Andrea Trinchieri gave his best from the arc and he can only be critisized by the fact that he forgot Bourousis at the bench when his country-mate coach had the slower Cusin in the court..

The next game (tomorrow) against the Finnish NT is the most critical one for the Hellenic NT in order to take in the second round at least one win with the second position in the group. It is expected that Spanoulis will be (at least for a while) back to the courts...

Giannis
Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo out for Eurobasket with knee injury - 3 hours ago
Greece's basketball federation has accused the Milwaukee Bucks and the NBA of hatching a plan to prevent Giannis Antetokounmpo(211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe) from playing in the European championship. About an hour after Antetokounmpo posted on Facebook and Instagram that he was unavailable because of a knee injury, the federation attacked the Bucks and the NBA in a statement, describing an "organized and well-staged plan" to keep Antetokounmpo from playing in the Eurobasket at the e...   [read more]
Will Spain Reign Supreme Again in EuroBasket 2017 - 8 days ago
Spain will once again find themselves as heavy favourites in the upcoming EuroBasket 2017 (31st August - 17th September). It is, of course, no surprise that the Spanish are widely tipped to win again this year, having won three of the last four EuroBasket Gold Medals. In fact, Spain have finished in the medal positions in the last five tournaments and have not finished any lower than 6th overall in the last 40 years. Put simply, the Spanish have been consistently excellent in the competit...   [read more]

Sergio Llull
Llull out of action for seven to nine months - 9 days ago
The worst case scenario was confirmed in the first morning hours for Sergio Llull (190-PG-87). The Spanish basketball federation announced that the player suffered a torn ACL. The really bad news however is that Llull will need at least seven to nine months in order to return back to action after what happened in the preparation game of Spain against Belgium. The press release of the federation is the following. Following the tests carried out on Sergio Llull in the Hospital Quiron Salud,...   [read more]
