If results of friendly games are good indicator of form, Spain confirmed their status of number 1 favourite at EuroBasket in Slovenia. La Roja played 8 preparation games and won them all! However, it has to be said that they played 7 out of 8 games at home, their only away from home game was in Montpellier - 85-84 win against France.

Lithuania and Slovenia played 12 preparation games each - most of all teams. Hosts of 2011 EuroBasket lost only once - 62-80 against Greece in Athens. Slovenia played 10 out of 12 games at home. In only two away from home games, they were thrashed by Serbia in Belgrade 66-91 and defeated Turkey in ugly game - in Belgrade too - 55-54. But, great news for them is that they will have home-court advantage at EuroBasket.

Greece and Serbia had good winning percentage as well and - unlike Spain, Lithuania and Slovenia - they played more games away from home. Greeks won 9 out of 11, including big wins against France away from home and Lithuania at home. Serbia played only 3 out of 11 games at home. Their biggest wins were against Slovenia and Turkey.

Eight teams in total had more wins than losses - France won 7 out of 10, including win in Slovenia. Poland and Turkey had 6-5 record, but without win against top teams.

On the other hand, Sweden had by far the worst winning percentage - 16,6. They played only 6 games - like Montenegro - and only managed to defeat Great Britain. Great Britain's only two wins came against non-European rival - Puerto Rico. Finland and Czech Republic didn't impress in preparation period as well.

Win-loss record of national teams in preparation period:

Spain 8-0 100%
Lithuania 11-1 91,6%
Slovenia 10-2 83,3%
Greece 9-2 81,8%
Serbia 8-3 72,7%
France 7-3 70%
Poland 6-5 54,5%
Turkey 6-5 54,5%
Latvia 4-4 (1 draw) 50%
Montenegro 3-3 50%
FYR Macedonia 5-5 50%
Italy 5-6 45,4%
Russia 4-5 44,4%
Belgium 5-7 41,6%
Georgia 4-6 40%
Croatia 4-6 (1 draw) 40%
Ukraine 3-5 37,5%
Israel 3-5 37,5%
Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-7 30%
Germany 3-7 30%
Czech Republic 2-5 28,5%
Finland 2-5 28,5%
Great Britain 2-6 25%
Sweden 1-5 16,6%

Will Spain Reign Supreme Again in EuroBasket 2017 - 7 days ago
Spain will once again find themselves as heavy favourites in the upcoming EuroBasket 2017 (31st August - 17th September). It is, of course, no surprise that the Spanish are widely tipped to win again this year, having won three of the last four EuroBasket Gold Medals. In fact, Spain have finished in the medal positions in the last five tournaments and have not finished any lower than 6th overall in the last 40 years. Put simply, the Spanish have been consistently excellent in the competit...   [read more]

Sergio Llull
Llull out of action for seven to nine months - 8 days ago
The worst case scenario was confirmed in the first morning hours for Sergio Llull (190-PG-87). The Spanish basketball federation announced that the player suffered a torn ACL. The really bad news however is that Llull will need at least seven to nine months in order to return back to action after what happened in the preparation game of Spain against Belgium. The press release of the federation is the following. Following the tests carried out on Sergio Llull in the Hospital Quiron Salud,...   [read more]
Spain started EuroBasket preparations - 20 days ago
The 16 players chosen by Spain's national team head coach, Sergio Scariolo, are in Madrid, where they started training camp ahead of upcoming EuroBasket 2017. La Roja will defend gold medal won in 2015. Spain will practice for 10 days before playing their first friendly game. Reigning European champions will play 5 out of 7 games at home territory, before travelling to Belgium and Lithuania. At EuroBasket, Spain will compete in Group C, hosted by Romania, where their rivals will be Croati...   [read more]
