Alexey Shved
Head coach of Russian national team, Vasiliy Karasev, announced names of 12 players that will represent 2007 European champions at EuroBasket in Slovenia.
"We have a slightly difficult situation as there is a rejuvenation of the team and many of its leaders will not play with us. There are some players on this team for whom this EuroBasket will be their first experience of a big tournament. We had to modify our style of basketball, make it faster and this team needs to get used to the new style. The last player I had to cut from the roster was Valery Likhodey (205-F-86, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group), because we are well-covered at his position, but I am really grateful to him for all his hard work during preparations", said Vasiliy Karasev .
Russian roster for EuroBasket will include two NBA players - Alexey Shved (198-G-88, agency: Alti Sport) of Minnesota Timberwolves and coach's son Sergey Karasev (202-SG-93, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov), new player of Cleveland Cavaliers.
Squad will also include Dmitry Khvostov (190-G-89),Eugeny Voronov (194-G-86), Vitaliy Fridzon (195-G-85, agency: Alti Sport), Dmitry Kulagin (197-F-92), Anton Ponkrashov (200-SG-86, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov), Semen Antonov (202-PF-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov), Sergey Monya (202-PF-83), Evgeny Valiev (205-F-90, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group), Dmitry Sokolov (214-C-85) and Alexey Savrasenko (215-C-79).
Russia will play without Andrei Kirilenko (209-F-81), Viktor Khryapa (203-F-82), Timofey Mozgov (215-C-86), Sasha Kaun (211-C-85), Andrey Vorontsevich (207-C-87) and Sergey Bykov (190-G-83). Bronze medal winners from 2011 EuroBasket will play in Group D, alongside Italy, Greece, Turkey, Sweden and Finland.

Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo out for Eurobasket with knee injury - 3 days ago
Greece's basketball federation has accused the Milwaukee Bucks and the NBA of hatching a plan to prevent Giannis Antetokounmpo(211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe) from playing in the European championship. About an hour after Antetokounmpo posted on Facebook and Instagram that he was unavailable because of a knee injury, the federation attacked the Bucks and the NBA in a statement, describing an "organized and well-staged plan" to keep Antetokounmpo from playing in the Eurobasket at the e...   [read more]
Will Spain Reign Supreme Again in EuroBasket 2017 - 11 days ago
Spain will once again find themselves as heavy favourites in the upcoming EuroBasket 2017 (31st August - 17th September). It is, of course, no surprise that the Spanish are widely tipped to win again this year, having won three of the last four EuroBasket Gold Medals. In fact, Spain have finished in the medal positions in the last five tournaments and have not finished any lower than 6th overall in the last 40 years. Put simply, the Spanish have been consistently excellent in the competit...   [read more]
