Prva Liga Round 12: Feni Indistrija defeats ABA Strumica in the closest game of the week - Feb 23, 2013

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Prva Liga.

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Prva Liga took place in Strumica. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked ABA Strumica (5-7) to third ranked Feni Indistrija (9-3) 77-76 on Saturday evening. ABA Strumica was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-20 charge of Feni Indistrija, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Corey McIntosh (183-85, college: Iowa St.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 assists and the former international power forward Bojan Trajkovski (206-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) who added 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international center Zlatko Gocevski (206-82, agency: Interperformances) with 23 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Feni Indistrija have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Lirija. ABA Strumica lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Rabotnicki. Feni Indistrija is looking forward to face Vardar (#7) in Skopje in the next round where they are favorite. ABA Strumica will play on the road against Fersped-Rabotnicki in Skopje and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Skopje: Lirija (#2) and Vardar (#7). Vardar was defeated at home 74-81 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The winners were led by Montenegrin power forward Balsa Radunovic (207-80, agency: Interperformances) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Jeremy Price supported him with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by Darko Kostevski (-86) did not help to save the game for Vardar. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lirija (9-3) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position behind leader Kozuv, which they share with Feni Indistrija. Vardar lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Lirija will play against league's leader Kozuv in Gevgelija in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vardar will play on the road against Feni Indistrija (#3) in Kavadarci and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Prva Liga top team - Kozuv (10-2) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Pelister Bitola (1-11) 82-72. The best player for the winners was Igor Mijajlovic who scored 24 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Aleksandar Kalanj who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kozuv have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-2 record. Pelister Bitola at the other side stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. Kozuv will meet league's second-placed Lirija in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pelister Bitola will play against Kumanovo 2009 (#4).
Fourth ranked Kumanovo 2009 (7-5) beat at home 6th ranked Fersped-Rabotnicki (5-7) by 13 points 83-70, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a good game for Aleksandar Kostoski who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kumanovo 2009 maintains fourth position with 7-5 record. Fersped-Rabotnicki at the other side dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. Kumanovo 2009's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Pelister Bitola (#8) at home. Fersped-Rabotnicki will play against ABA Strumica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points and 12 rebounds by Nemanja Jelesijevic of Rabotnicki.

Vardar - Lirija 74-81

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Skopje: Lirija (#2) and Vardar (#7). Vardar was defeated at home 74-81 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 21-15 Vardar's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-74 at the end of the game. Lirija dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Vardar's 44. They outrebounded Vardar 44-28 including a 33-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Montenegrin power forward Balsa Radunovic (207-80, agency: Interperformances) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Jeremy Price (203-88, college: Georgia) supported him with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Fourth ranked Kumanovo 2009 (7-5) beat at home 6th ranked Fersped-Rabotnicki (5-7) by 13 points 83-70, which is the biggest margin this round. The game was mostly controlled by Kumanovo 2009. Fersped-Rabotnicki was better in second period 23-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Prva Liga top team - Kozuv (10-2) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Pelister Bitola (1-11) 82-72. The game was mostly controlled by Kozuv.
