HoNsU trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 20-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 63-69 at the end of the game. The former international power forward Laura Saarinen (187-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Sarah Miles (170-89, college: W.Virginia) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side American guard Brandi Davis (183-83, college: Oregon) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Minna Sten (189-87) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. HoNsU's coach Tuomas Oja rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-70. The former international point guard Reetta Piipari (170-80, college: Xavier) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and American guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds. The game was mostly controlled by Catz Lappeenranta. TuRi managed to win fourth quarter 20-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Catz Lappeenranta dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to TuRi's 30. Catz Lappeenranta forced 20 TuRi turnovers. Russian power forward Jelena Reshetko (184-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and American swingman Alexandria Anderson (185-86, college: Chattanooga, agency: Regeneracom Sports) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds. Catz Lappeenranta's coach Mika Haakana used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Canadian guard Brittany Hedderson (175-90, college: Buffalo) responded with 23 points and American forward Callan Taylor (182-90, college: Sacred Heart) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Catz Lappeenranta (SM-sarja) confirmed 42-year old coach Mika Haakana.Haakana has coached there for the last eight years. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Haakana won Finnish League championship title in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Kouvottaret (SM-sarja) landed 21-year old forward Iida Ahvenainen (175-96, college: Iona) from PeKa. But in 15 SM-sarja games she averaged just 1.7ppg last season. She helped them to make it to the semifinals. Valimaa represented Finland at the European Championships U16 Division B in Tallin (Estonia) five years ago.
