There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (20-6) on the court of fifth ranked SO Maritime Boulogne on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by SO Maritime Boulogne 86-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pau-Lacq-Orthez. The game was mostly controlled by SO Maritime Boulogne. Pau-Lacq-Orthez managed to win second period 26-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SO Maritime Boulogne dominated on the defensive end, holding Pau-Lacq-Orthez to just 7 points in third quarter. They made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. SO Maritime Boulogne looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Center Mouhammadou Jaiteh (206-94) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Austen Rowland (186-81, college: Lehigh, agency: Court Side) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) during the contest. Naturalized Senegalese forward Antoine Mendy (198-83) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SO Maritime Boulogne maintains fifth position with 16-10 record. Pau-Lacq-Orthez at the other side still keeps top place with six games lost. SO Maritime Boulogne are looking forward to face SPO Rouen (#6) on the road in the next round. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will play against Saint-Quentin (#13) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Antibes. Seventeenth ranked Bordeaux (7-19) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging higher ranked Olympique Antibes (15-11) 79-77 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Forward Boris Elisabeth-Mesnager (200-83, college: California, PA) notched 29 points to lead the effort and Nigel Wyatte supported him with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Even 23 points by American swingman Anthony Hilliard (193-86, college: Elizabeth City) did not help to save the game for Olympique Antibes. Bordeaux have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventeenth position with 7-19 record. Olympique Antibes lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Fos Ouest and Rouen. Bordeaux will play against league's second-placed ALM Evreux at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Olympique Antibes will play against Hyeres-Toulon (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

An interesting game took place in Denain where higher ranked Lille Metropole (12-14) was upset on the court of sixteenth ranked Denain Voltaire (8-18) 57-48. Americans were the main players on the court. John Flowers orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds. Denain Voltaire's coach Fabrice Courcier allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Denain Voltaire maintains sixteenth position with 8-18 record. Lille Metropole at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 14 games lost. Denain Voltaire's next round opponent will be higher ranked Le Portel (#3) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
Fourth ranked Chalons-Reims (17-9) crushed at home 8th ranked JL Bourg (14-12) by 38 points 75-37, which is the biggest margin this round on Friday night. Justin Burrell had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. JL Bourg's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Chalons-Reims maintains fourth position with 17-9 record. Loser JL Bourg dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Chalons-Reims will face bottom-ranked Charleville-Mezieres (#18) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. JL Bourg will play against Saint Vallier (#15).

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 26: bottom-ranked Charleville was destroyed by St Vallier on the opponent's court 107-80. Nantes unfortunately lost to Le Portel in a home game 79-95. Rouen rolled over Fos Ouest on the road 94-60. Evreux defeated Maurienne on its own court 60-56.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 7 rebounds by Sherman Gay of Le Portel.



St Vallier - Charleville 107-80

Rather expected game when 18th ranked Charleville-Mezieres (5-21) was crushed on the road by fifteenth ranked Saint Vallier (9-17) 107-80 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Saint Vallier. Charleville-Mezieres was better in second period 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saint Vallier shot 61.3 percent from the field. They also forced 20 Charleville-Mezieres turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Saint Vallier looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Charleville-Mezieres' players. American-Ivorian guard Errick Craven (188-83, college: USC) had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Jonathan Hoyaux (192-88) chipped in 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Saint Vallier players scored in double figures. American guard Darryl Hudson (195-85, college: Howard, agency: R.H.Consultancy) responded with 26 points (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Pridotkas (200-84) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Saint Vallier moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Nantes. Charleville-Mezieres lost twelfth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 21 lost games. Saint Vallier will face higher ranked JL Bourg (#9) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Charleville-Mezieres will play against Chalons-Reims (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

A very close game took place in Saint-Quentin between Hyeres-Toulon and Saint-Quentin. Gregor Beugnot leaves Chalon - May 24, 2013

Gregor Beugnot has decided to put an end to his outstanding career in Chalon-sur-Saone. The head coach has decided to leave the team after 10 seasons at helm. Gregor Beugnot has the contract until 2014 but opted to split ways with the team after rather a successful season. Antibes - Pau-Lacq-Orthez 83-79 OT Antibes needed overtime to tame Pau-Lacq-Orthez at home court as they advanced into ProB Finals. Pau-Lacq-Orthez trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 17-5 run in the last quarter tied the game at the end of regular time, But then they lost eventually overtime period 14-18. 27 personal fouls committed by Pau-Lacq-Orthez helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
