American center Kirk Archibeque (205-C-84) had a very impressive game in the last round for top-ranked MIA Academy, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 15. The 28-year old player had a double-double of 23 points and 23 rebounds, while his team edged out Rustavi (#4, 11-3) 96-92. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed MIA Academy to consolidate first place in the Georgian Superleague. MIA Academy have a solid 12-2 record. Archibeque turned to be MIA Academy's top player in his first season with the team. Former Fort Lewis University star has very solid stats this year. Archibeque. Archibeque is in league's top in points (4th best: 19.5ppg) and averages impressive 58.1% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was 23-year old international center Richard Matiashvili (207-C-89) of Kutaisi. Matiashvili had a very good evening with a double-double of 29 points and 18 rebounds. Bad luck as Kutaisi was edged by slightly higher-ranked Dinamo Tbilisi (#5, 9-5) 87-85. This loss caused Kutaisi to drop to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-6 record is not bad and everything may still change. Matiashvili is well-known at Kutaisi and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.6ppg (#2). He also registered 12.2 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was center Sergo Atvashovili (223-C-85) of Sokhumi (#8). Atvashovili scored 17 points and grabbed twenty one rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Sokhumi, leading his team to a 81-77 win against slightly lower-ranked Batumi (#9, 3-11). The chances of Sokhumi not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Atvashovili could try to bring Sokhumi's a little bit higher in the standings. Atvashovili has a very solid season. In 3 games in Georgia he scored 17.7ppg.
