Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir (TBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American (has also Georgian passport) swingman Melvin Sanders (196-94kg-81, college: Oklahoma State). He started the season at Sigma Barcellona in Italian Lega2. In 17 games he recorded 9.0ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.5apg this season. The last season Sanders played at Hacettepe. In 29 games he averaged 12.7ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Turkish League Honorable Mention. The most of previous (10-11) season he spent at Menorca Basquet (ACB) in Spanish league. In 14 games he averaged 7.6ppg and 2.5rpg that season. Sanders also played at Tsmoki-Minsk in Belarusian league earlier that season. In two EuroChallenge Qualifying Round games he averaged 8.5ppg, 6.0rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0spg. He also played 8 games in VTB United League where he averaged 14.1ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.0apg and 1.5spg.
The previous (09-10) season Sanders played at Herbalife Gran Canaria 2014 (ACB) in Spanish league. In 34 games he averaged 6.2ppg and 2.2rpg. He also played 12 games in Eurocup where he averaged 6.9ppg and 2.3rpg.
In 2003 Dodge City Legend selected him as fourth overall pick in USBL draft.
He attended Oklahoma State and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball. Sanders' team won Belarusian Cup in 2011.
He is a very experienced player. Sanders has played also professionally in Belgium, France (Pau-Lacq-Orthez), Greece (Panellinios), NBA (San Antonio Spurs), Spain (Unicaja Malaga) and D-League (Fayetteville P.).
The scouts decsribe him following way: A near world-class track and field athlete in the jump events.
A tremendous defender who is yet polishing his offensive skills; a great athletic talent who's got a lot of energy
