Larry Gordon
Larry Gordon (196-F-87, college: Cal Poly Pomona) is a 26 year old 196cm forward that is playing his second season in the German Beko BBL for Phoenix Hagen. Last season for Phoenix Hagen he helped the team reach the playoffs playing 37 games: 12.7ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.5apg, FGP: 52.9%, 3PT: 43.0%, FT: 83.2%He played at Cal Poly Pomona (NCAA2) from 2005 to 2009 playing a total of 116 NcAA2 games. In his senior year, he played 33 games: 15.7ppg, 10.4rpg, 2.0apg, 1.7apg, FGP: 53.8%, 3PT: 38.5%, FT: 75.7%. He was a CCAA Player of the Year and NCAA D2 Finalist in 2009. In 2009-2010, he came to Europe as a rookie and played for Landstede Basketbal Zwolle (Holland-Eredivisie, starting five): 36 games: 14.0ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.8apg, 1.2spg, FGP: 48.3%, 3PT: 33.7%, FT: 75.8%. He played for ECE Bulls Kapfenberg (Austria-A Bundesliga) the last two seasons and in his last season played 38 games: 14.7ppg, Reb-3 (8.4rpg), 1.8apg, FGP-3 (65.2%), 3PT: 36.2%, FT: 77.1%. He spoke to Eurobasket during pre season

Larry thanks for talking to Eurobasket.com again. Congrats on winning the Krombacher challenge in Hagen. How awake and alive was the home crowd already in this young preseason?

The home crowd was very active this weekend, I love the fans in Hagen. They take real pride in being our fans and they really our like our sixth man out there. They are definitely ready for me and the regular season to start!

Phoenix Hagen Beat 2010 Eurochallenge winner BG Goettingen and Beko BBL team Telekom Baskets Bonn. In a way this was a title for Phoenix Hagen. Despite it being a pre season tournament that doesnt mean anything, how much could you be thrilled about this win?

It's always good to Win no matter what you are playing for. It sends a good message in how we are going to be in the upcoming season. Being able to finally play against a team in the BBL this pre season definitely helped us build a sense of confidence. But we still were excited about the Win!

How high can you rate this tournament win without having point guard Henery Dugat in the lineup. With Ole Wendt and Mark Dorris you have very capable point guards, but this weekend success was generated without the starting point guard

I mean that's the beauty of our team this year, I think we have a lot of guys that can step up and deliver when things are a bit foggy. Not having Henry hurts because he is very good and adds that extra explosiveness and basketball IQ to our team. But he is going to be our secret weapon to start the season, so it's all good for now.

Phoenix Hagen scored over 100 points in each game and had a total of 207 points. How happy are you with the overall development of the Phoenix Hagen offense since the first day of training camp. What is working beautifully and what does the team still need to work on?

We are happy with how we performed on offense so far. Right now we are just doing the basics as everyone knows we are a run and gun style team, so right now it's just trying to get back into that good shape to where we can sustain this style for 40min. Our transition offense is working great and we still need to work on our spacing and timing at certain times.

Phoenix Hagen also played defense giving up an average of 75 points this weekend. Last season, you always said that Phoenix Hagen focused on defense first. There were games where you out scored your opponent in the 100s, but then again games where you limited the opponent to around 70 points. Where do you see Phoenix Hagen being with their defense this season with the personel that you have?

Oh yea Defense is still our main priority and focus. We know our offense will come but it will be how we play defense and how we can get consistent stops is what going to make a great team his year. Our personnel fits perfect with how we want to play defense. We have a very fast and athletic team. It's going to be Fun!

You were Phoenix Hagen top scorer in each game with 36 points and 19 points. Eye witnesses have said that you have made progress over the summer and improved your game. Last season you were a very important factor on offense in an offensive scoring machine. Do you think that this season you could be even more of an offensive scorer than last season?

Yea I worked hard on my game this off season, I really wanted to get better at certain things so I can be a major threat when I'm on the court and so my teammates as well as the coaches can trust that I can make the right plays no matter what the situation is. I set a goal for myself to be more of a threat this year in the BBL and I will continue to work to achieve that goal!

Many basketball experts have FC Bayern Munich as one of the favorites to win it all this season in the Beko BBL. However this weekend, they lost to the Telekom Baskets Bonn and had problems against Pro A team BG Goettingen. What was your impression of FC Bayern Munich who were without some German national players?

They did seem out of sync a little bit, not the Munich I'm used to see playing. But like you said they are missing some key players and this is only Pre season! And BG Gttingen was a really tough team to play, they are going to have a good season in Pro A, much respect.

The NFL starts today. Which teams do you see as the favorites and what will be the surprise team this season?

All I will say is COWBOY NATION BABY!

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Argo.

Thanks Larry fort he chat.
