BV Chemnitz 99 (14-13) survived in overtime against BG Goettingen (19-8) by four points 75-71 on Sunday night. The best player for the winners was Takumi Ishizaki who scored 18 points and 7 assists. BV Chemnitz 99 maintains seventh place with 14-13 record. BG Goettingen at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. BV Chemnitz 99 will face higher ranked BG Karlsruhe (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BG Goettingen will play against Finke Baskets in Paderborn and be promoted back to the BBL just one year after relegation.

Other games of round 27 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
bottom-ranked Leipzig defeated Jena in a road game 85-83. Kirchheim was beaten by Ehingen at home 73-79. Duesseldorf lost to Cuxhaven on the opponent's court 59-65. Finke Baskets managed to outperform Heidelberg in a home game 75-67. Vechta managed to beat Gotha on the road 106-95. ETB Wohnbau defeated Crailsheim on its own court 86-84.
The best stats of 27th round was 27 points and 7 rebounds by Jaivon Harris of Karlsruhe.


Jena - Leipzig 83-85

There was an upset when higher ranked Science City Jena (13-14) was edged at home by bottom-ranked USC Leipzig (7-20) 85-83 on Sunday. USC Leipzig have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted USC Leipzig maintains sixteenth place with 7-20 record. Science City Jena at the other side keeps the eighth position with 14 games lost. USC Leipzig will face higher ranked ETB Wohnbau (#12) in Essen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Kirchheim - Ehingen 73-79

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule (15-12) defeated on the road 15th ranked Kirchheim Knights (10-17) 79-73 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kirchheim Knights won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American forward Andre Calvin (196-85, college: Drake) who scored 22 points. Kenneth Ogbe (197-94) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Chris Alexander (186-83, college: Southern) who recorded 14 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ehingen/Urspringschule maintains sixth place with 15-12 record. Kirchheim Knights at the other side dropped to the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. Ehingen/Urspringschule will face Science City Jena (#8) at home in the next round. Kirchheim Knights will play against Duesseldorf Baskets (#3).

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 3rd placed Duesseldorf Baskets (18-9) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (16-11) 65-59 on Sunday. Cuxhaven BasCats maintains fourth place with 16-11 record, which they share with Karlsruhe. Duesseldorf Baskets at the other side keep the third position with nine games lost. Cuxhaven BasCats will face MLP Academics Heidelberg (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Duesseldorf Baskets will play against Kirchheim Knights (#15).

There was a surprise result in Paderborn where fourteenth ranked Finke Baskets (11-16) beat higher ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (12-15) 75-67 on Sunday. MLP Academics Heidelberg was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Jason Jamerson (190-86, college: Grand Valley St.) who scored 22 points. Swingman Billy Rush (201-88, college: Robert Morris) chipped in 8 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Devin White (203-88, college: SUNO) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Clint Sargent (193, college: S.Dakota St.) added 17 points respectively. MLP Academics Heidelberg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Finke Baskets moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with ETB Wohnbau and Crailsheim. MLP Academics Heidelberg at the other side keeps the tenth position with 15 games lost. Finke Baskets will face league's second-placed BG Goettingen on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (10-17) was defeated at home by first ranked SC Rasta Vechta (20-7) 106-95 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by SC Rasta Vechta. Oettinger Rockets Gotha was better in fourth quarter 31-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SC Rasta Vechta made 17-of-17 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard Richard Williams (178-87, college: San Diego St.) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Swingman Corey Hassan (193-87, college: Sacred Heart) chipped in 23 points. SC Rasta Vechta's coach Patrick Elzie used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Five SC Rasta Vechta and four Oettinger Rockets Gotha players scored in double figures. Newly promoted SC Rasta Vechta maintains first place with 20-7 record. Oettinger Rockets Gotha at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. SC Rasta Vechta will face Crailsheim Merlins (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Oettinger Rockets Gotha will play against NBC in Nurnberg.

Crailsheim Merlins were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 28-25 charge of ETB Wohnbau, which allowed them to win the game. They made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Aaron Cook (186-83, college: Hartford, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who scored 18 points and 5 assists. Forward Fabian Franke (198-88, agency: Limelight Hoops) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American swingman Jonathan Moore (203-82, college: N.C.Central) who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Benjamin Lischka (200-89, agency: LUMANI 10.7) added 19 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Crailsheim Merlins' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
