The Regular Season in A1 just ended.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Thessaloniki. First ranked Panathinaikos faced 4th ranked PAOK. Guests from Athens (21-1) defeated host PAOK (14-8) 60-51. PAOK trailed by 21 points after 3 quarters before a 23-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 51-60 at the end of the game. Panathinaikos dominated on the defensive end, holding PAOK to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded PAOK 44-24 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. point guard Aristea Maglara (168-83) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. American center Caila Desroches (193-88, college: Chicago St.) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Panathinaikos have an impressive 16-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-1 record. PAOK at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Kronos. Local Kronos AD (12-10) outscored 11th ranked Panionios (2-20) 90-38. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Iro Valantasi (187-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Anna-Maria Manta contributed with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Forward Christina Babi (178-96) replied with 11 points for Panionios. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kronos AD have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aris. Panionios lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 20 games lost.

Zoi Kechagia scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners. Athinaikos' coach Giorgos Leivadis felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Niki Zerva responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Athinaikos have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 19-3 record having just two points less than leader Panathinaikos. Newly promoted Olympiakos keeps the tenth place with 16 games lost.

Rest of the games of round 22 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Ikaros Kalitheas crushed GAC Eunikos in Glyfada 83-43. Terpsithea beat Asteras at home 51-45. Aris lost to AO Ellinikou on the opponent's court 49-63.
The best stats of 22th round was 50 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds by Jasmine Erving of Ikaros Kalitheas.


GAC Eunikos - Ikaros Kalitheas 43-83

There was no surprise in Liosa where 12th ranked GAC Eunikos (1-21) was crushed by fifth ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (13-9) 83-43 on Saturday. The game without a history. Ikaros Kalitheas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding GAC Eunikos to just 2 points in third quarter and to 12 points in second half. Ikaros Kalitheas dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to GAC Eunikos' 26. Ikaros Kalitheas forced 27 GAC Eunikos turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ikaros Kalitheas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by GAC Eunikos' players. American center Jasmine Erving (188-90, college: CS Northridge) had a double-double by scoring 50 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Dimitra Giannakopoulou (180-81) chipped in 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side forward Eleni Voukelatou (176-95) responded with 8 points and 7 rebounds and forward Liana Plavoukou (183-83) scored 7 points and 7 rebounds. GAC Eunikos' coach Dorita Deve gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Ikaros Kalitheas maintains fifth position with 13-9 record. Loser GAC Eunikos stay dead last with 21 lost games.

Kronos AD - Panionios 90-38

The game with biggest result difference took place in Kronos. Local Kronos AD (12-10) outscored 11th ranked Panionios (2-20) 90-38. The game without a history. Kronos AD led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held Panionios to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Kronos AD forced 31 Panionios turnovers and outrebounded them 59-30 including a 43-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Iro Valantasi (187-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. point guard Anna-Maria Manta (170-97) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Kronos AD players scored in double figures. Forward Christina Babi (178-96) replied with 11 points and forward Eleni Steriopoulou (177-96) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Athinaikos (#2) and Olympiakos (#10). Athinaikos (19-3) smashed visiting Olympiakos (6-16) by 37 points 89-52. The game without a history. Athinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Olympiakos' 36. Athinaikos forced 20 Olympiakos turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Athinaikos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Olympiakos' players. Point guard Zoi Kechagia (170-79) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Lolita Lymoura (180-85, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 11 points and 7 assists during the contest. Athinaikos' coach Giorgos Leivadis felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Glyfadas where ninth ranked Terpsithea (7-15) defeated 8th ranked Asteras (7-15) 51-45 on Saturday. Asteras was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 18-11 charge of Terpsithea, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Asteras' 24. Terpsithea forced 20 Asteras turnovers. American forward Michelle Harrison (190-87, college: Utah) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Maria Panagiotopoulou (187-83) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Theodora Panteli (183-87, college: Binghamton) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Aspasia Kalampakou (178-93) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. Rather expected game when 6th ranked Aris (12-10) was defeated on the road by third ranked AO Ellinikou (18-4) 63-49 on Saturday. Aris was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. AO Ellinikou forced 31 Aris turnovers. The former international forward Evina Stamati (181-84) scored 25 points and 6 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Tania Chalivera (178-85) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. AO Ellinikou's coach Eleni Kapogianni used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side guard Roula Mouli (178-85) responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Bosnian center Aleksandra Begenisic (193-89) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.
