Nikos Pappas
The Regular Season in A1 is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

Seventh-ranked Apollon Patras (10-13) made lots of trouble for third ranked Panionios (18-5) in Athens on Saturday. Panionios managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-78. Panionios made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Apollon Patras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Nikos Pappas (195-90, agency: FCM) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Naturalized Serbian forward Vladimir Jankovic (202-90, agency: FCM) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. American Keaton Grant (193-86, college: Purdue) produced 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panionios maintains third place with 18-5 record having just two points less than leader Olympiacos. Newly promoted Apollon Patras keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Aris. Panionios are looking forward to face PAOK (#4) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Apollon Patras will play at home against the league's second-placed Panathinaikos in Athens and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Sixth-ranked Ikaros (11-12) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked AGOR (15-8) in Rethymno. AGOR managed to secure only two-point victory 68-66. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Ikaros. American forward Brent Petway (204-85, college: Michigan) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 8 rebounds. Marc Antonio Carter contributed with 16 points for the winners. Senegalese forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for Ikaros. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. AGOR maintains fifth place with 15-8 record. Ikaros at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. AGOR will play against KAOD (#9) in Dramas in the next round. Ikaros will play at home against Ilysiakos in Athens and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Panelefsiniakos managed to get a sixth victory on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Panelefsiniakos won against fourth-ranked PAOK in Eleusina 67-54. It was a great evening for Nikos Liakopoulos who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 5 assists. Kostas Haralampidis responded with 14 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Panelefsiniakos (6-17) moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Peristeri GS. Loser PAOK keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Panelefsiniakos will meet league's leader Olympiacos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. PAOK will play against Panionios and will have a slim chance for a victory.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Thessaloniki. Local Aris (10-13) beat 9th ranked KAOD (8-15) 85-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of KAOD. Aris moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Apollon Patras. KAOD at the other side keeps the ninth position with 15 games lost. Aris' next round opponent will be Peristeri GS (#13) in Athens which should be theoretically an easy game. KAOD will play at home against AGOR (#5) in Rethymno.
