The Regular Season in A2 is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds.

Round 23 in A2 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Trikallon where host Aiolos Trikallon (18-5) edged league's leader Nea Kifisia (18-5) 73-71 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Nea Kifisia. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 24-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Nea Kifisia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Tasos Charismidis (203-81, agency: FCM) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Giorgos Fountas (184-77) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals. Forward Vaggelis Karaboulas (198-81, agency: FCM) produced 21 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Aiolos Trikallon moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Nea Kifisia. Nea Kifisia will play next round against Pagrati trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens - Pagrati. Aiolos Trikallon will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Ikaroi Serron in Serres.
Leader Filathlitikos delivered the nineteenth victory. This time they beat 14th ranked Doxa Lefkadas (4-19) 83-71. Point guard Nikos Gikas (186-91, agency: FCM) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Babis Samothrakis contributed with 19 points for the winners. Filathlitikos' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Savvas Manousos (208-85) answered with 32 points and 9 rebounds for Doxa Lefkadas. Filathlitikos have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Filathlitikos maintains first place with 19-4 record. Doxa Lefkadas lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Filathlitikos will play against Ermis Lagkada (#9) in Lagadas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Doxa Lefkadas will play at home against Agia Paraskevis (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Athens was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Koroivos (16-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Pagrati (10-13). Koroivos defeated Pagrati 80-67 on Saturday. It was a great evening for Branislav Tomic who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Koroivos' coach Vassilis Nipergialis used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaggelis Sklavos responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Koroivos have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Koroivos maintains fourth place with 16-7 record. Pagrati at the other side keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Koroivos will meet at home Lavrio (#5) in the next round. Pagrati's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Nea Kifisia.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Lavrio. Local Lavrio (14-9) outscored 9th ranked Ermis Lagkada (9-14) 77-45. It was a quality performance for Giorgos Psomaderis who led the winners and scored 8 points and 12 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lavrio have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 14-9 record. Ermis Lagkada at the other side keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. Lavrio's next round opponent will be higher ranked Koroivos (#4) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ermis Lagkada will play against the league's leader Filathlitikos (#1).

Other games of round 23 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Arkadikos was crushed by OFI in Heraklion 76-57. Agia Paraskevis beat Niki Volou at home 82-78. Ikaroi Serron won against Irakleio on the opponent's court 81-73.
The best stats of 23th round was 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by Petros Noeas of Koroivos.


OFI - Arkadikos 76-57

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Heraklion where 10th ranked Arkadikos (8-15) was crushed by eleventh ranked OFI (8-15) 76-57. It looked good early as Arkadikos took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then OFI had a 18-14 second period charge getting the lead and Arkadikos was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 57-76. OFI had a 34-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Vassilis Kitsoulis (204-83) who led the winners and scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Italian guard Marios Matalon (187-89, college: Wyoming) accounted for 8 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Power forward Sokrates Gizogiannis (202-82) came up with 26 points and 5 rebounds and guard Thodoris Tsiotras (198-87) added 15 points respectively for Arkadikos in the defeat. OFI moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Arkadikos. Arkadikos lost third consecutive game. OFI's next round opponent will be Niki Volou (#13) in NIki Volou.

Agia Paraskevis - Niki Volou 82-78

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Agia Paraskevis (13-10) defeated at home 13th ranked Niki Volou (5-18) 82-78. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Niki Volou was ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 50-39 second half run of Agia Paraskevis. They outrebounded Niki Volou 38-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Niki Volou helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for guard Vangelis Tsiakas (194-81) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Nikos Psileas (200-80) accounted for 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Agia Paraskevis' coach Nikolaos Hatzipanagiris used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Thanassis Koutinas (-87) came up with 20 points and 6 rebounds and guard Giannis Karagiolidis (195-89) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Niki Volou in the defeat. Four Agia Paraskevis and five Niki Volou players scored in double figures. Agia Paraskevis have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Agia Paraskevis maintains sixth place with 13-10 record, which they share with Ikaroi Serron. Niki Volou lost third consecutive game. Niki Volou at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Round 23 in A2 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Trikallon where host Aiolos Trikallon (18-5) edged league's leader Nea Kifisia (18-5) 73-71 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Nea Kifisia. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 24-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Nea Kifisia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Tasos Charismidis (203-81, agency: FCM) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Giorgos Fountas (184-77) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals. Forward Vaggelis Karaboulas (198-81, agency: FCM) produced 21 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Christos Petrodimopoulos (209-80, agency: FCM) added 14 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Nea Kifisia players scored in double figures. Aiolos Trikallon moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Nea Kifisia. Nea Kifisia will play next round against Pagrati trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens - Pagrati. Aiolos Trikallon will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Ikaroi Serron in Serres.

Pagrati - Koroivos 67-80

The game in Athens was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Koroivos (16-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Pagrati (10-13). Koroivos defeated Pagrati 80-67 on Saturday. Koroivos looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Pagrati's players. It was a great evening for Serbian power forward Branislav Tomic (205-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Petros Noeas (204-87) helped adding 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Koroivos' coach Vassilis Nipergialis used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Vaggelis Sklavos (202-77) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Marios Dermitzakis (198-92) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Koroivos have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Koroivos maintains fourth place with 16-7 record. Pagrati at the other side keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Koroivos will meet at home Lavrio (#5) in the next round. Pagrati's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Nea Kifisia.
