One of the ''next best things'' of Greek women's basketball, is answering to the name of Artemis Spanou (182-F-93). She took her talents overseas, in the United States and she is introducing herself to the basketball fans, in Europe.

Hey Artemis. Tell us some things about yourself. In what university you play and in what year you are?? How is the life in the States? is your family with you??..

For the last two years, i have been playing for the Robert Morris University women's basketball team. I am a sophomore currently. I live in America, in Pittsburgh, by myself on campus, as all my family lives in Greece. Although, i was lonely at first, i have now settled in to life over here and i am enjoying it.

Life in America is very different from back home. First of all, i have to do everything myself, cleaning, washing, ironing, shopping. At home in Athens, my mum used to do all of this for me. Here i don't have anything to worry about, except my studies and playing basketball, because i have so much help from people and friends around me. Everything is very organized.

What are your plans after your studies?

I haven't thought seriously about my future yet. I still have two more years here at Robert Morris and then i will see what options are open for me after that. The thing i know for sure is that i want to go on to play basketball professionally. Whether this will be in America, In Europe, or back in Greece, will depend on my perfomance over the following two years and how much i can improve my own game.

What is the style of basketball you like playing the most? What is your ''deadliest move'' on the court? Did you have a good basketball season, this year??

I would say that i prefer playing the European style of basketball, since that i have been playing that style from the age of ten. This may be a slower type of game, but more controlled. I believe i had a good season this year, but i always think that i can do better in the future, that's why we practise everyday, to improve our quality levels.

I wouldn't say that i have a 'deadly move' on the court. However, looking at the positions my coaches play me and where i gained most points this year, i would say that my right jump hook has a high percentage of baskets.

Did you find any difficulties when you first came in USA and started playing?

When i first came, i had difficulties in competing with my teammates, as they were stronger and faster than i was. But that actually helped me to make myself get better and faster and stronger, in order to keep up with the other players.

How difficult or how easy it is, to go to the WNBA??.. Will you go for it, someday?

It has been a goal for me, many years now, to play in the WNBA. However, i am realistic about my chances. I know that there are so many good basketball players who would also like to go to the WNBA, so the competition is very intense. It is not easy, but yes i would like to go for it in the future. There are always possibilities, if you try.

The Greek women national team!.. What to you thing about it?.. Is it in your basketball goals, to establish yourself as an important member of the Greek National Team??

It was my first dream, to play for my national team and i managed to achieve that. My goal now is to increase my playing time in the team and to improve my statistics. In the future, i would like to be considered, as an important and valuable member of the team. This would make me very proud.
