Here is the weekly review of the top performing Greek players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, currently plays in Russia), who plays in the Russian PBL. He could not help one of league's weakest teams Spartak St.Petersburg (8-7) in their last game. Despite Mavrokefalidis' very good performance Spartak St.Petersburg was edged 85-82 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) Triumph Lyubertsy. He was the top scorer with 25 points. Mavrokefalidis also added 6 rebounds in 32 minutes on the court. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Mavrokefalidis has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.6apg, 3FGP: 30.8% and FT: 75.6% in the 12 games he played so far. He played for the Greek senior national team two years ago.

Nick Calathes

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Russia. Calathes was not able to help Lokomotiv (12-4) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance the first-placed Lokomotiv was defeated 68-63 at home by the second-ranked Valencia Basket in the group K of Eurocup. Calathes was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 7 rebounds. It's Calathes' first season with the team. Calathes is ranked first on the list of the best passers in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.1ppg, 5.9rpg, 6.7apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 52.9%, 3FGP: 26.7% and FT: 58.8%. Calathes is a naturalized American. He is in the roster of the Greek senior national team. Calathes used to play for 3-year contract with Panathinaikos Athens in Greek league.

Kostas Koufos

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Kostas Koufos (213-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA). He led Denver Nuggets to an easy victory against the Brooklyn Nets (43-31) crushing them 109-87 in the NBA on Friday night. Koufos recorded 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 24 minutes. The Denver Nuggets have a solid 51-24 record this season. This year Koufos has relatively solid stats: 8.2ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.3bpg, 2FGP: 59.9%(275-459) and FT: 56.7% in the 74 games. He is a naturalized American. Koufos played for the Greek national team two years ago. Strangely he has never played in Greece.

   #4. Guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB was not able to secure a victory for Gescrap BB (16-11) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Zisis' very good performance Gescrap BB was defeated 90-82 on their home court in Bilbao by the much lower-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#15). He was the top scorer with 15 points. Zisis belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #7. This season he averages: 8.6ppg, 1.9rpg and 3.7apg. Zisis is also Greek national team player.

   #5. International power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83, currently plays in Russia) led Unics Kazan to a victory over the second-ranked Enisey Krasnoyarsk (20-8) 73-58 in the Russian PBL last Monday. He was MVP of the game. Kaimakoglou scored 18 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in 26 minutes. Unics Kazan (7-7) is placed sixth in the PBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Kaimakoglou is currently sixth on the league's list of top scorers with 15.0ppg. This year he also averages: 5.6rpg, 2.4apg and 1.6spg in the eight games. Kaimakoglou plays currently for the Greek national team.

   #6. Swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Nikolaos Zisis and both played together in the last Spanish ACB game. Vasiliadis, who plays in the Spanish ACB couldn't help Gescrap BB (16-11) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Gescrap BB was defeated 90-82 on their home court in Bilbao by the much lower-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#15). Vasiliadis scored 11 points (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). Vasiliadis is currently seventh on the list of top scorers. This season he has very good stats: 14.1ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.9apg and 1.1spg. Vasiliadis is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster.

Dimitris Haritopoulos

   #7. Former international power forward Dimitris Haritopoulos (205-83, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Bulgaria) was the major contributor in a Lukoil Academik's victory against the fifth-ranked Tundja Yambol (11-12) 85-68 in the Bulgarian NBL in Friday night's game. He scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. Lukoil Academik Sofia (21-2) is placed first in the NBL. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Haritopoulos has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.9ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.3apg in the seven games. Haritopoulos used to play for the Greek national team eight years ago.

Power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Russia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Kaimakoglou and both played together in the last Russian PBL game. Vougioukas contributed to an easy victory against the second-ranked Enisey Krasnoyarsk (20-8) 73-58. He scored 11 points. Vougioukas has reliable stats this season: 11.5ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.2apg. He plays currently for the Greek national team.

   #9. An experienced former international point guard Theodoros Papaloukas (200-77, also represented by FCM, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help CSKA Moscow in a victory against the fourth-ranked Real Madrid (16-7) 81-72 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. Papaloukas recorded only 4 points in 9 minutes on the court. CSKA Moscow (19-4) is placed first in group E. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Euroleague Top 16. And now that game is quite important. This year Papaloukas' overall stats are: 2.5ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.2apg in the 10 games. He used to play for the Greek national team five years ago.

Forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Armani Milano's victory against the closely-ranked Banco di Sardegna Sassari (18-7) 85-79 in the Italian SerieA in Saturday night's game. Fotsis recorded 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. EA7 Emporio Armani Milano (15-10) is placed fifth in the SerieA. Fotsis' total stats this season are: 7.3ppg and 4.4rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster.

   #11. Former international forward Mihalis Kakiouzis (206-76, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Cyprus) helped AEK edge the closely-ranked Apoel 76-74 in the Cypriot Division A last Tuesday. Kakiouzis had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 16 rebounds in 34 minutes. Kakiouzis' stats this year are: 14.0ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.2spg in the five games. He used to play for the Greek national team six years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79, currently plays in Italy) helped C.de Latte BRE win their game against the tenth-ranked Upea CdO crushing them 109-87 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) on Thursday night. Barlos scored 22 points and added 4 passes. Barlos averaged so far 11.8ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.7spg. He used to play for the Greek national team back in 2005.

   #13. Former U18 international forward Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help CB Canarias in their game against Lagun Aro GBC in the Spanish ACB, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Lampropoulos scored 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 25 minutes. But his team lost 77-89. This year Lampropoulos' total stats are: 7.0ppg and 3.8rpg in the 27 games. He used to play for the Greek U18 national team ten years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international small forward Dusan Sakota (209-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Italy) helped Cimberio Varese win their game against the closely-ranked Lottomatica Roma crushing them 81-58 in the Italian SerieA last Monday. Sakota recorded 8 points. Sakota has averaged so far 6.8ppg and 2.2rpg. He used to play for the Greek U20 national team back in 2006.

   #15. Former international swingman Dimitrios Tsaldaris (194-80, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Angelico Biella in their game against Sutor Montegranaro in the Italian SerieA, despite his very good performance on Monday night. Tsaldaris recorded 14 points, 4 assists and 3 steals in 36 minutes. But his team lost 73-86. Tsaldaris has averaged so far 8.6ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.6apg and 1.5spg in the 10 games. He used to play for the Greek national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Greek passport but never been selected to any of Greek national teams:

   #1. Triantafillos Tzakopoulos (187-G-85, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German ProA (second division) could not help Duesseldorf Baskets (20-10) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Tzakopoulos' very good performance Duesseldorf Baskets was defeated 88-78 on the road by the lower-ranked Science City Jena (#7). He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Tzakopoulos also added 3 assists. The Regular Season already ended. Tzakopoulos has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 2.2rpg and 3.6apg. He has a dual citizenship: Greek and Australian.

   #2. Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-PG-89, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to Olimpi's victory against the closely-ranked Energy Invest (13-6) 84-72 in the Georgian Superleague on Saturday night. Sokk scored 9 points and added 4 passes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Olimpi Tbilisi (15-3) is placed second in the Superleague. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Sokk is currently third on the league's list of best passers. He has very solid stats this season: 10.4ppg, 2.8rpg, 5.8apg and 1.1spg. Sokk is another player who holds two passports: Greek and Estonian.

   #3. Mannos Nakos (179-PG-88, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Basketligan was not able to help Uppsala Basket (28-9) in their last game. Despite his good performance Uppsala Basket lost 63-67 in Sodertalje to the lower-ranked (#3) Kings. Nakos recorded 11 points in a mere 17 minutes. Nakos has been at the team for four years. He has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 1.5apg in the 38 games he played so far. Nakos has both Greek and Swedish nationalities.

   #4. Dan Mavraides (193-G-88, college: Princeton, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a 1-point Juvecaserta's victory against the closely-ranked Cantu (15-10) 66-65 in the Italian SerieA on Monday night. He recorded 7 points in 17 minutes. Co.Fi.Ba JuveCaserta (11-14) is placed ninth in the SerieA. Mavraides has averaged so far 8.1ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.3spg in the 14 games. He is a naturalized American. Mavraides used to play for Aris Thessaloniki in Greek league.

   #5. Experienced Elias Motran (201-F-80, currently plays in Lebanon) was not able to secure a victory for Bejjeh (6-19) in their game against Champville (16-9) in the Lebanese Division A. Despite his very good performance in Tuesday night's game He was the top scorer with 15 points. The Second Stage already ended. Motran has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.5apg. He also holds two passports: Greek and Lebanese.

   #6. Nicholas Livas (198-G-87, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Cuxhaven BasCats crushing them 92-63 in the German ProA (second division) on Thursday night. Livas scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Livas has averaged so far 9.2ppg, 6.8rpg and 2.2apg. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Livas has never played in Greece.

   #7. Angelo Tsagarakis (190-PG-84, currently plays in France) couldn't help Chalons-Reims in their game against Pau-Lacq-Orthez in the French ProB (second division). He scored 6 points and added 3 assists in 24 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 20 points 75-55. Tsagarakis averaged so far 12.7ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.7apg in the 29 games. He has dual citizenship: Greek and French. Despite Tsagarakis' Greek passport, he previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Greek team.

   #8. Kosta Karamatskos (197-G-86, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a Crailsheim Merlins' victory against the league outsider USC Leipzig 102-96 in the German ProA (second division) last Saturday. Karamatskos scored 7 points. Karamatskos has averaged so far 2.0ppg and 1.1rpg. He holds both Greek and German passports. Despite Karamatskos' Greek nationality, he previously played for the German U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Greek team.

   #9. Athanasios Kalpakas (198-F-84, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Akropol in their game against Boras II in the Swedish Basketettan (second division). Kalpakas recorded 5 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in 35 minutes. His team was edged 99-97. Kalpakas averaged so far 12.1ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.9apg and 1.1spg in the 23 games. He has Greek and Swedish nationalities.

   #10. Giannis Prodromou (196-F-87, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Kirchheim Knights in their game against MLP Academics Heidelberg in the German ProA (second division). He cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. Prodromou scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His team was defeated 95-89. Prodromou has averaged so far 3.9ppg and 1.8rpg. Worth to mention Prodromou played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.
