The best and most successful twin in the European courts is ready for the finals - Jun 6, 2013

Giorgos
Bartzokas
Finals: Olympiakos Vs Panathinaikos - first game tomorrow the 7th of June, 2013, in SEF @ 20:00 local time

The most successful European twin in the European courts having won the 9 out of the last 16 Euroleague finals is opening the Hellenic finals tomorrow the 7th of June, 2013. Both teams are ready for the best and their thousands of supporters are ready to give their own fight in both SEF and OAKA courts. The first three games are nearly sold-out and all the Basketball world is expecting to watch a series (which probably will end up in five games) of great games between the two most successful teams, diachronically and for the last two decades.

This is the original el classico of Europe since these are the two most known and successful teams in Europe!!

Is it going to be VSpan or 3D, nobody can tell for sure. Olympiakos of Coach Giorgos Bartzokas repeated his European success this season and is better than ever with a solid Hellenic and full of youth team which is running all over and can turn around all the defensive mechanism of their opponents in the one side and on the other side the newly established (after Obradovic) team of Panathinaikos which surprised many Basketball experts this season, with Diamantidis leading the team and Ramel Curry being the change factor of the six star, Panathinaikos is expected to fight until the end against the favorite team of Olympiakos. In fact in these games the first game of the series is always the most crucial one since the statistics (for those following them) are simply saying that 9 out of 10 times the winner of the first game is always the one to win the title.

Olympiakos or Panathinaikos, Panathinaikos or Olympiakos no one can tell but everybody admits that this is the most successful duet in the European courts, it is not a coincidence that the last 5 years the two Greek contenders won the Euroleague trophy four times (two per team), and also is not a coincidence that since 1996 the two teams together won 9 European titles! With players that can play in any team in Europe the two Greek rookie (in Greek finals) Coaches, Giorgos Bartzokas and Argiris Pedoulakis will try their best to prove that they belong to the crme de la crme of the European coaching.

No matter if Greece is suffering and already entered in the fourth year of tough recession with unemployment being more than 30%, Basketball is getting better and better and is obviously the national sport of the country.

The Greek players playing abroad are mostly champions or belong to the top tier players in the local leagues playing, from Bulgaria to Spain and from Israel to Sweden, the Greeks are stand outs in the local leagues and the coaches are following too, there is no coincidence in these figures and the new generation of Greek basketball players are keeping the same paste as the older generation, players like Pappas, Jankovic, Papanikolaou, Mantzaris and Sloukas followed by Adetokoubo, Charalampopoulos, Bohoridis, Agravanis and many others soon will be the new elements of the Hellenic National team ready to follow the steps of their older team-mates like Diamantidis, Spanoulis, Big Sofo, Pritnezis and the other guys who had some glorious days with the Hellenic emblem in the previous years.
Basketball was and will remain the core sport in Greece, the most successful sport on a temporal basis.

Eurobasket is wishing all the best to the best European duet and may the best team wins the championship trophy

A1 Round 3 of Play-Offs. AGOR overcome Kolossos to advance - 2 days ago
AGOR - Kolossos HH 69-55 AGOR advanced into quarterfinal stage. They overcame Kolossos in the decider. The game was mostly controlled by AGOR. Kolossos HH managed to win second period 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for forward Haralampos Giannopoulos (200-89) who led his team to a victory with 20 points. American guard Walter Lemon-Jr (190-92, college: Bradley) contributed with 20 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line)...   [read more]

Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo's 30 points make him top Greek player abroad of the week - 2 days ago
We bring you last week's top performances from Greeks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international swingman Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-94, agency: Octagon Europe). He could not help the Milwaukee Bucks (42-40) in their last game. Despite Antetokounmpo's very good performance the Milwaukee Bucks (42-40) were crushed 118-93 on the road by the Toronto Raptors.    [read more]
