Here is the weekly review of the top performing Dutch players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Robin Smeulders (207-87, agency: Court Side, college: Portland, currently plays in EuroChallenge), who plays in Germany. Smeulders could not help EWE Baskets (5-1) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his very good performance the first-placed EWE Baskets was defeated 66-61 on the road by the second-ranked Khimik in the group L of EuroChallenge. Smeulders was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 6 rebounds. This season Smeulders averages: 9.2ppg, 4.1rpg, 2FGP: 56.6%(43-76), 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 71.4%. He has a dual citizenship: Dutch and German. Smeulders is currently a member of the Dutch senior national team.

Henk Norel

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Henk Norel (214-87, currently plays in Spain). Norel was the major contributor in a CAI Zaragoza's victory against the closely-ranked G.Canaria 2014 (14-10) 69-53 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. CAI Zaragoza (14-10) is placed sixth in the ACB. It's Norel's first season with the team. Norel is ranked sixth on the list of the best rebounders in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.2ppg, 6.3rpg, 2FGP: 56.9%(128-225) and FT: 55.2%. Norel is in the roster of the Dutch senior national team.

The Dutch player who performed third best last week abroad was former U16 international forward Kevin van Wijk (203-89, currently plays college basketball in the States). van Wijk led Valparaiso to a 1-point victory against the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay (10-6) 70-69 in the NCAA on Saturday night. He scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Valparaiso University has a very good 13-3 conference record this season. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. van Wijk's overall stats this season are: 8.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 2FGP: 52.4% and FT: 78.5%. He played for the Dutch U16 national team eight years ago.

   #4. Power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) was not able to help Leche Rio Breogan (11-10) in their last game. Despite Schaftenaar's very good performance Leche Rio Breogan lost 66-74 on the opponent's court to the lower-ranked (#11) Ourense. He was the second best scorer with 18 points. Schaftenaar also added 7 rebounds in 32 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. This year Schaftenaar's overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.6apg in the 20 games he played so far. He used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2010.

   #5. An experienced international center Francisco Elson (211-76, college: California, currently plays in Iran) contributed to a 2-point Mahram's victory against the league leader Petrochimi (17-1) 85-83 in the Iranian Superleague last Thursday. Elson recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Mahram Tehran (14-3) is placed third in the Superleague. Elson is ranked seventh on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). His total stats this season are: 8.4ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.1bpg and 2.4spg. Elson plays currently for the Dutch national team.

Point guard Charlon Kloof (190-90, currently studies in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the St.Bonaventure (7-9) in their game against the Fordham University (3-13) in the NCAA. Kloof scored 5 points and added 4 assists. The St.Bonaventure was defeated 76-72 at home by the Fordham University. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Kloof's total stats this season are: 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg. He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Dutch team three years ago.

U18 international center Jito Kok (206-94, is currently at the American university) contributed to an San Diego's surprising victory against the Brigham Young University (11-5) 72-69 in the NCAA last Friday. Kok recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 19 minutes. The University of San Diego has 7-9 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. This year Kok's total stats are: 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg in the 22 games. He is also Dutch U18 national team player.

   #8. Forward Kadeem Pantophlet (201-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Duquesne (1-14) in their game against the University of Richmond (8-9) in the NCAA. Pantophlet scored 8 points. The Duquesne was crushed 79-55 in Richmond, VA by the University of Richmond. It was Duquesne's fifth consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Pantophlet has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team back in 2009.

Former U18 international center Olaf Schaftenaar (206-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the one of league's weakest teams Oregon St. (4-14) in their game against the University of Utah (9-11) in the NCAA. He cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. Schaftenaar scored only 3 points. The Oregon St. was defeated 72-61 in Salt Lake City, UT by the University of Utah. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Schaftenaar has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg. He used to play for the Dutch U18 national team two years ago.

   #1. Daniel Kickert (208-C/F-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Ukraine) led Budivelnyk to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Azovmash (22-12) 97-78 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Friday night's game. He recorded 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 23 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Budivelnyk Kyiv (27-8) is placed first in the Superleague. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Kickert has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.3apg in the three games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Australian and Dutch.

   #2. Experienced Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Worcester Wolves to a victory over the closely-ranked London Lions (11-17) 94-76 in the British BBL on Friday night. He was MVP of the game. Ocitti had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 19 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks and 4 steals in 33 minutes. Worcester Wolves (17-9) is placed fourth in the BBL. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Ocitti is currently fourth on the league's list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (fifth place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Ocitti averages: 15.2ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1bpg in the 25 games. He is a naturalized American.

   #3. Kim Tillie (210-PF-88, agency: Priority Sports, college: Utah, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB could not help UCAM Murcia (24-6) in their last game. Despite his good performance his team was edged 80-79 at home by the much lower-ranked (#8) FIATC Joventut. Tillie had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. This year Tillie's overall stats are: 8.5ppg and 4.0rpg in the 24 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Dutch and French.

   #4. Josh Duinker (210-F/C-89, college: Richmond, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Caceres Basket (9-13) in their game against River Andorra (20-2) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division), despite his very good performance on Friday night. He recorded 13 points in 25 minutes. But Caceres Basket was badly defeated 84-64 on the road by the leading River_Andorra. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Duinker's total stats are: 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg in the 22 games. He has both Australian and Dutch nationalities.

   #5. Joey van Zegeren McAdam (208-F-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the Virginia Tech (4-15) in their game against the Wake Forest University in the NCAA. van Zegeren McAdam cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 15 minutes. The Virginia Tech lost 79-90 in Winston-Salem, NC to the Wake Forest University. It was Virginia Tech's third consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. van Zegeren McAdam has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 4.7rpg in the 22 games.

   #6. Jonah Callenbach (194-F/G-93, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Fontedoso Carrefour in their game against Prat Juventud in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Callenbach cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 11 minutes. His team lost 66-75. Callenbach has averaged so far 3.4ppg and 1.2rpg in the 13 games. He also holds two passports: Portuguese and Dutch.

Cocinas.com CB Clavijo Logrono (LEB Gold) landed 20-year old Dutch center Terrence Bieshaar (208-97, agency: Interperformances). He is not a newcomer in Spanish League as he played most recently at Joventut (Liga Endesa). Liga Endesa was a little too high level for him, where in four Liga Endesa games he did not score anything. LEB Gold will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Landstede Basketbal Zwolle (Eredivisie) added to their roster 23-year old American forward Franko House (198-112kg-94). House just graduated from Ball State University (NCAA). He has played there for the last four years. In 34 games he recorded 13.4ppg, 6.4rpg and 2.3apg last season. House helped them to make it to the semifinals. Magia Huesca (LEB Gold) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old Dutch forward Kevin van Wijk (203-104kg-89, college: Valparaiso) from Melilla Baloncesto. In 37 LEB Gold games in Spain he recorded 6.0ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg last season. The previous (15-16) season van Wijk played at Oviedo_CB where in 34 LEB Gold games he averaged 7.6ppg and 4.8rpg.
