The biannual general assembly of the Icelandic basketball federation took place today and resulted in changed rules about the Dominos league. Starting from next season, teams in the Dominos league will have to have at least 4 players on the court with an Icelandic passport, whilst only a maximum of 1 foreign player can play.
This season the rules have been 3 Icelanders + 2 foreigners in the mens Dominos league, whilst the womens Dominos league and the 1st division have had the 4+1 rule in effect. Even though the general assembly voted on changing the rules, the vote was close with only 2 votes seperating the opposing sides.
IR Reykjavik has come to terms with Orvar Kristjansson to coach their team for next three seasons. Orvar was an assistant with UMFN Njardvik last season and served as the head coach for Fjolnir Reykjavik the two previous seasons.IR Reykjavik finished their season in 9th place after struggling throughout the season. IR Reykjavik managed to stay clear of relegation by winning 2 out of their last 4 games while their competitors lost their games.
Stjarnan coach Teitur Orlygsson will stay on as their coach for one more year, after signing an extension earlier this week. He said though that this would be his last season as the head coach of Stjarnan.Teitur signed with Stjarnan in December 2008 and produced a Cup in his first season, and managed to get another one this season. He has also taken Stjarnan forward, from reaching their first playoffs in 2009, to two finals appearances in 2011 and 2013.
