Hibernian UCD Marian Dublin announced the appointment of Yiannis Liapakis as the new head coach for the upcoming 2013/14 season.

Since arriving in Ireland in 2011 Ioannis has worked with Mark Ingle within the DCU Mercy program winning the U20 National Cup and working extensively with their Superleague squad. Prior to coming to Ireland Ioannis had a very successful playing career in his native country Greece. He played in the top Greek league for Peristeri as well as playing in the Euroleague for the club. After retiring from playing Ioannis has developed as a coach gaining experience both as an assistant and head coach at various levels in Greece including working in the Greek A1 Division.

Speaking about the appointment Hibernian UCD Marian Dublin Chairman Alan Fearon said "We are really excited to welcome Ioannis into the club. We received a huge amount of interest in the position from all over the world but we thought that Ioannis was the outstanding candidate and the best fit for our club. It will be great to see how he can develop our younger players as they strive to break into the team as well as work with our established Irish players. I'm sure everyone in the club will get behind him and the team during the season."

Ioannis also spoke about joining the club "I am delighted and honoured to be asked to be the next Hibernian UCD Marian Dublin coach. It will be a privilege to coach one of the longest standing and traditional basketball clubs in Ireland. I understand the traditions and philosophy of Hibernian UCD Marian Dublin and I hope to add my experience and expertise to this team and bring the success I know it deserves."

For any players interested in joining the team for the upcoming season there will be trials in Oatlands College Stillorgan from 8.30-10.30 on the 13th-14th of August. Any players interested in attending should email ucdmariansl [at] gmail.com.
