Mikus Salna is a 14 year old basketball player from Lucan Co Dublin and has been playing basketball in Dublin for the last four seasons most recently with Oblate Basketball club in Inchicore in Dublin city Ireland.

Mikus has already experienced the international basketball scene playing in Latvia and also with a trip to a FIBA U13s boys tournament in France with the Players1st development program in April 2012.

When Mikus walked into the gym after his family immigrated to Ireland from his native Latvia, it was clear to see that this was a determined young man who has a passion for the game. He plays and works on this game every day and his commitment to becoming the best player he can be has always been second to none. Mikus very quickly became know in basketball circles in the Dublin area as the Latvia kid, he was making his presence felt in the Dublin League with regular double doubles and in many cases he would knock down 30+ point games with ease.

At a recent Players1st development trial Mikus was noticed by one of the travelling coaches from the Italian Prep Academy (IPA) and the coach identified Mikus as a player with massive potential should he get into the right program. This new departure is one that will see Mikus complete his secondary education at the prestigious private boarding school, INSTITUTO TECNICO AGRARIO STATALE, located in the scenic hills of Ascoli Pinceno in Italy.

In addition to this Mikus will train for circa 6 hours per day for 5 and sometimes 6 days a week and he will play 150+ games per annum. The coaches at the IPA have a proven track record with their most recent achievement seen one of their past players, Nemanja Nedovic (191-PG-91, agency: Beo Basket), drafted by Phoenix , but traded to Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft.

Can Mikus follow in the footsteps of Nedovic? Well this will depend on how much Mikus wants it and how hard he is willing to work to make it happen!!!
Watch this space for more details in the future on how Mikus is doing.
