The Regular Season in A2 just ended. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Venezia: Umana Reyer (#1) and Marghera (#5). Marghera was defeated at home 57-62 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-19. But Marghera won second period 11-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Umana Reyer won last quarter 15-12. The best player for the winners was Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. International guard Alessandra Formica (186-93) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Bulgarian swingman Daniela Georgieva (184-86) produced 15 points for the hosts. Umana Reyer (25-1) have an impressive 21-game winning streak. Newly promoted Umana Reyer maintains first position in North. Marghera at the other side keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in San Martino di L. Third ranked San Martino faced second-ranked Milano. Host San Martino (21-5) smashed guests from Milano (20-6) 69-42. It was a key game for the second position in North. Forward Maria Sbrissa (187-86, college: NYIT) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Valentina Stoppa contributed with 13 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners. The former international forward Manuela Zanon (187-80) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds for Milano. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Martino moved-up to second place in North. Milano at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Ragusa. First ranked Ragusa faced 3rd ranked S. La Spezia. Host Ragusa (23-1) defeated guests from La Spezia (18-6) 73-61. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of S. La Spezia. Virginia Galbiati scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners. Ragusa's coach Antonio Molino used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maria Laterza responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Ragusa have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position in South with 23-1 record. Loser S. La Spezia keeps the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Napoli S.Dike.
Bottom-ranked Consum.it Siena (0-24) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 62-41 loss to tenth ranked Viterbo (7-17) in Siena. Martina Rejchova notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 22 rebounds to lead the effort. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Viterbo maintains tenth position in South with 7-17 record. Consum.it Siena at the other side still closes the standings with 24 games lost.
The game in Udine was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Broni (13-13) played at the court of eighth ranked Udine (13-13). Udine managed to secure a 6-point victory 63-57 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Broni. The best player for the winners was Chiara Rossi who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Broni's coach Paolo Fassina rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Udine moved-up to sixth place in North, which they share with Alghero and Broni.
