Coincidentally all visitors won their games.

The game in Jurmala was quite interesting. Second ranked Jekabpils (17-9) played at the court of 6th ranked Jurmala (11-16). Jekabpils managed to secure a 4-point victory 88-84 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 4 points. Jekabpils made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Jekabpils outrebounded Jurmala 45-23 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Jurmala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Rinalds Sirsnins (186-85) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Polish center Michal Hlebowicki (204-76) contributed with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Atis Ozols (199-81) answered with 32 points and 6 rebounds for Jurmala. Jekabpils have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Barons kvartals. Jurmala at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Liepaja. Jekabpils is looking forward to face league's second-placed Barons kvartals in Riga in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jurmala will play on the road against Jelgava (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Latvijas Universitate moved-up to sixth place. U18 lost eleventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Latvijas Universitate will play against Liepaja (#8) on the road in the next round. U18 will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 31 Liepaja beat Jurmala on the road 86-77.


U18 - LU 62-92

The game between 11th ranked U18 (1-15) and eighth ranked Latvijas Universitate (12-16) in Riga ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Riga outscored U18 92-62. The game was mostly controlled by Latvijas Universitate. U18 was better in third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Latvijas Universitate made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Latvijas Universitate outrebounded U18 50-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a quality performance of guard Zanis Peiners (204-90, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Liepaja (11-16) beat on the road 6th ranked Jurmala (11-16) 86-77. The game without a history. Liepaja led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Liepaja outrebounded Jurmala 42-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Artis Ate (191-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Nigerian-Russian center Aleksey Adediran (204-82, college: Binghamton) helped adding 19 points and 7 rebounds. Four Liepaja players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Roberts Mednis (204-89) responded with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American guard Ken Brown (185-89, college: Philander Smith) scored 18 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Liepaja moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Jurmala. Liepaja will play against higher ranked Latvijas Universitate (#6) in Riga in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jurmala will play on the road against Jelgava and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

BK Ventspils (LBL) agreed terms with 31-year old American (has also Puerto Rican passport) point guard Emanuel Ubilla (188-86, college: Fair Dickinson, agency: Court Side). He played last season at Zalakeramia-ZTE KK in Hungarian A Division. In 45 games he had very impressive stats: 17.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 8.1apg (leader !!!) and 1.3spg.
