The teams have now bigger motivation at this stage of Regular Season. Every game can be crucial and decide about teams' position at the end of Regular Season.

There was a change at the LBL leadership position after last games. Round 35 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Barons kvartals (18-11). They were defeated by ninth ranked Liepaja (12-18) 96-89 on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-89. Liepaja made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Barons kvartals turnovers. It was a great evening for guard Kristaps Miglinieks (197-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American guard Pierce Caldwell (191-88, college: Incarnate Word, agency: Alti Sport) helped adding 17 points and 5 assists. Liepaja's coach Guntis Endzels used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Maris Gulbis (202-85, agency: Players Group) responded with 20 points. Liepaja moved-up to eighth place. Barons kvartals at the other side dropped to the second position with 11 games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Jekabpils. Barons kvartals will play next round against strong Ventspils trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Liepaja will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
LBL top team - Jekabpils (19-11) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Turiba (10-20) 106-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Turiba. It was a quality performance for American point guard P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) who led the winners and scored 28 points and 6 assists. Todd O'Brien accounted for 22 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Martins Steinbergs (191-90, agency: FCM) came up with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Turiba in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Jekabpils maintains first place with 19-11 record. Turiba at the other side keeps the tenth position with 20 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Jurmala was also quite interesting. Third ranked Valmiera (18-12) played at the court of 8th ranked Jurmala (11-19). Valmiera did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 69-52 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was Janis Berzins who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Valmiera's coach Varis Krumins allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Roberts Stumbris produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Valmiera maintains third place with 18-12 record behind leader Jekabpils. Jurmala lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with 19 games lost. Valmiera will meet at home bottom-ranked U18 (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jurmala will have a break next round.
Sixth ranked Ventspils (14-2) crushed at home 7th ranked Jelgava (13-16) by 30 points 93-63, which is the biggest margin this round. Ronalds Zakis orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 7 rebounds. Ventspils' coach Roberts Stelmahers felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ventspils moved-up to fourth place. Jelgava at the other side keeps the seventh position with 16 games lost. Ventspils' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Barons kvartals in Riga and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jelgava will play at home against VEF Riga (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
