The Regular Season in LBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Riga. Second ranked Barons kvartals faced 4th ranked Ventspils. Host Barons kvartals (19-11) defeated guests from Ventspils (14-3) 91-82. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ventspils won third quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barons kvartals made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Jamar Diggs (187-88, college: Wofford, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who scored 27 points and 9 assists. The other American import forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international Arturs Berzins (204-88, agency: FCM) who recorded 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Ventspils' coach Roberts Stelmahers rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Barons kvartals keep a position of league leader, which they share with Jekabpils. Ventspils at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Barons kvartals is looking forward to face Jelgava (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Ventspils will have a break next round.
The game in Jelgava supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked VEF Riga (14-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Jelgava (13-17). VEF Riga smashed Jelgava 119-83. It was a good game for American center Justin Hamilton (210-90, college: Iowa St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Earl Rowland contributed with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Guard Kristaps Kanbergs (190-88) replied with 18 points and 5 assists for Jelgava. VEF Riga have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Jelgava lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 17 games lost. VEF Riga will play against Jurmala (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Jelgava will play against the league's second-placed Barons kvartals in Riga and hopes to get back on the winning track.

In the last game of round 36 bottom-ranked U18 was crushed by Valmiera in a road game 94-64.


Valmiera - U18 94-64

There was no surprise when 11th ranked U18 (1-17) was crushed on the road by third ranked Valmiera (19-12) 94-64. The game without a history. Valmiera led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to U18's 32. They outrebounded U18 55-27 including a 40-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. U18 was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for forward Agnis Cavars (196-86) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Janis Berzins (202-93, agency: Players Group) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Cavars is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Valmiera players scored in double figures. Guard Davis Geks (190-95) replied with 26 points and 5 rebounds and forward Ervins Meznieks-Zahars (194-96) added 15 points in the effort for U18. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valmiera have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 19-12 record having just -1 point less than leader Jekabpils. U18 lost thirteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 17 lost games. Valmiera will play against league's leader Jekabpils at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. U18 will play against Liepaja (#8) to get more than just one victory in their record.

The game in Jelgava supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked VEF Riga (14-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Jelgava (13-17). VEF Riga smashed Jelgava 119-83. The game without a history. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Jelgava's 36 and made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Jelgava 47-28 including a 34-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. VEF Riga players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American center Justin Hamilton (210-90, college: Iowa St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). American-Bulgarian guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Guard Kristaps Kanbergs (190-88) replied with 18 points and 5 assists and American power forward Keith Chamberlain (204-87, college: Grinnell) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Jelgava.
